minij I have the same trouble with weight with being small, it seems to make you look so much bigger :( I am only 5'3 so only tiny myself and I just look so wrong with my weight.

As for agi..... please please please join in.. I am buying some new scales on wednesday when I go shopping and also buying 'Health coach' for my DS from Lisa which has a pedometer in as walking is the only exercise I am willing to do because im lazy :P

I think having this is a great idea and was wondering if anyone was up for the little challenge that was posted earlier about the walking? I think it will help us all get motivated

I have to brag a bit..we had a dinner out for my aunt's bday.
I got grilled chicken and steamed broccoli while everyone else at steak and fried things.
Then back at the house..2 kinds of cake! a pound cake, and an ice cream cake.

I passed on BOTH!

then wine after..not allowed on my diet..passed on that too.

and the great thing is..I really didn't find it that hard. My trick?
I pictured myself at the pool with my kids..totally free..and thinner..not worrying about my wieght will help me be more comfortable at the pool so I can fully enjoy my kids. That's what I picture in my head everytime I want to eat something bad..
their smiling faces and me not worrying about if anyone is looking and laughing..or constantly trying to hide in my towel..etc.
that's my motivation for this first half of the year.

Agi, another way of looking at it (without a set of scales) is to calculate the ratio between hips and waist, since carrying weight in the middle of your body is more harmful than carrying it lower down (the apple vs pear body shape). (For chaps, the ratio should be 0.95 or less).

For a lady, the wait to hip ratio should be 0.8 or less. Divide your waist measurement by your hip measurement to get the ratio.

Of course, this is only one of many indicators, but fits in neatly with the 'clothes gauge'.

well done coffee_freak, mabel figworthy and midge!! :D  :applesauce:

right, i'm starting to worry now as i am going back to ww meeting tomoro and weighing in there...
for the last few months i have been weighing myself on wii fit - thus how i figure i'm 11st 6lbs ... although this morning i checked back and apparently i'm actually 11st 5lb!! :D :D

BUT i won't be changing my ticker just yet as i am gonna go off the scales at ww .... which could mean i'm heavier!! :( :(

i had an experience when i was almost at goal last time - i'd weigh myself every week before i left for ww on my own scales - which for MONTHS had been 2lb difference to ww - so the one week, my scales told me that i was down 4lbs! was SO excited, and then 30 mins later at ww, i was told i'd lost 1lb! was gutted! (bear in mind i was but 5lb away from my goal! :( and i hadn't eaten or drank anything in that half hour)

SO anyway, i'm really worried that i'm gonna get to my meeting tomoro and be told that i'm actually way heavier than what my wii says :( :(

also we have WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY too much chocolate in the house left over from christmas and there's only one (sane) way of getting rid of it ... and it's SO YUM!!!!! :(

That's our problem too :-( but we're getting through it :-) and then it's just a matter of not replacing it!
Did make a crumble last night though, as FIL had given us some of his home-grown cooking apples and we had SIL come to stay. Guilty pleasure...
I'm hoping to manage 1lb a week -- if I lose it at that rate it's more likely to stay off with me (past experience!). So "weight" and see what I am next Sunday...

Twinkleberry, my GP once said to me that the actual weight was not the most important (I mean knowing it exactly down to the last ounce) -- what was more important was weighing yourself
* at the same time of day
* on the same scales
* in the same state of dress or undress
* not too often and certainly not more than once a day
This way, she said, you got results that you could really compare (as weight naturally fluctuates by sometimes as much as 3 or 4 pounds throughout the day) , it shows you the real weight loss (or gain :-( ), and by limiting the number of times a week that you are allowed to weigh yourself you don't get fixated on it.

I'm taking the plunge, I'm going to join you all! I don't know how much I weigh but I'm 5'5", size 18ish, and bigger at the moment than the girl at work who's 13 weeks pregnant. Now there's a wake-up call!

I'll be weighing in at work, the scales here are better than any I'd buy for home and that way I can be sure of weighing in at the same time etc. I'm going to do weight watchers, which I'll sign up for online tonight.

I've never been a slim adult, so this isn't a case of I started off at 10 stone and piled on a load of weight; by the time I stopped growing I was a size 14/16. I would like to be down at that sort of size again, smaller than that wouldn't suit me (I have broad shoulders and real child-bearing hips!) but that would be nice.

Oh go on then I'll join you all :) I'm like Caz 5'7 and a size 18 :( Before I had Hannah I was a size 10 and happy,I had alot of health issues with Hannah and could never get back in shape afterwards. Right now I'd be more than happy to be a 12/14 aslong as I can go into one of those snooty dress shops and not get looked down on, you know like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman and what she does after she's had the make over :)

I'll weigh myself when I go to the gym tomorrow and add my ticker then :)

Congrats to everyone who lost weight! My one word of advice is to be happy with any weight loss. I always hear so many people say "i only lost 1 pound this week" 1 pound a week adds up to 52 pounds a year! So any amount of weight loss is good! :D

So my work had an after holidays party this weekend and let's just say I blew pretty much all my extra ww points on it! So now I have to walk a lot the next few days and stick strictly to my points for each day. Probably won't have any weight loss this week but that's okay as long as I at least maintain. I'd really hate to gain some on my second week.

I'm going to join in too. I need to get rid of about 15 pounds at least. I'm 5 foot 7 inches tall and have done a lot of weight training and whatnot in the past so my ideal weight is about 10 stone 8 pounds. If I lose any more than that I look ill. But OH and I have good really mad boozing and eating over Christmas and I had over-eaten quite a bit before then as well and I'm horrified to discover I'm almost 12 stone! It's the heaviest I've ever been.

Amazingly, I can still just about squeeze into my size 12 work gear as the skirts were quite big on me to begin with, but most of my going out clothes and things don't fit and I live in trackie bottoms and hoodies.

So I'm going to make a real effort to get rid of some pounds and hopefully doing it along with all of you will also help.

I've made a start by vowing to cycle to work every day this week. This morning it poured with rain, but I still did it. The journey is 3 miles and goes up a really steep hill on the way, so you have to put a lot of effort in.

I had muesli for breakfast, a banana for a morning snack and for lunch I had a cup-a-soup and some crackers with hummus. So far so good.

I have a cereal bar to give me some energy to cycle home and OH is cooking a (reasonably) healthy tea. Only oven chips, fish fingers and frozen peas, but unfortunately we're really hard up this week and had to resort to Tesco Value everything. Next week will be much better with bag fulls of fruit and veg, fresh white meat from the butcher, granary bread and so on.

OH needs to get some fat off as well so I have encouragement at home too, which helps. Great that we can all do this together!

That's great that a lot have your OH that can help because they need to lose weight too. My OH is actually trying to gain weight. It kinda makes it hard at night because half the time we end up eating completely different meals because the stuff he eats is so incredibly fattening or really high in calories. He is at least nice enough to go walk with me when the weather is nice. I think it's only because it drives him nuts when I just walk around in circles in the living room. :D

my hubby also needs to gain a bit of weight. he is actually classed as healthy (he saw the doc last year on an unrelated topic), but he's so weedy! when i first met him he was 12 stone (actually we both were!) and now he's 1 stone lighter than me!! (and not thru trying! grrrrr!)

men really are annoying aren't they - and they don't even have to try!

I've got a really annoying friend like that - she's a few years older than me, but she's got a gorgeous figure. She's had three kids, she doesn't exercise regularly, she eats and drinks anything she fancies and never puts on a pound! GGGRRRR!

I only have to smell fish and chips and I gain weight!
