Re: Nachstenliebe's First SAL here!
Time for my two week update!

Last week at work I had an itch to do the castle lol. And that led me to doing the background. I think I needed a break from the blending filament. It looks like I'm almost finished! Woohoo!
I'm making this for my husband's aunt for Christmas. Now that it's getting close to being completed I'm having second thoughts. His aunt is a local author and has written a dragon series for children. She's never liked me, and was against us getting married. I've tried to get close but his family isn't really warm up to you kind of people.
I'm a bit worried it's going to get shoved in the closet and collect dust. At the same time, if this doesn't show that I value her as a member of our family, and hope one day she could see the same in me, what would?

Re: Nachstenliebe's First SAL here!
I think you probably deserve sainthood for stitching something this beautiful and complex for someone who doesn't like you
-- I'd be thinking twice about stitching this for someone who loved me to bits! But as you say this is definitely a token of goodwill and family feeling on your part, and as such (and for being so thoughtfully chosen to go with her books) surely must be appreciated! Perhaps your husband could make discreet enquiries as to whether she would value/appreciate it?

Re: Nachstenliebe's First SAL here!
Wow you've got loads done since the last update!
I agree with Mabel - it is such a lot of work to put into something (as all we stitchers know!) that it'd be good if you could find out beforehand if she'd like it. If not, keep it!
I've made a point of not giving stitching as gifts. Don't get me wrong I do like to take effort to find nice presents for people, but stitching has so many hours put into it, I wouldn't stitch something I didn't like, and so since I like everything I stitch, I want to keep it
I had to carefully explain just how many hours goes into stitching when a work colleague suggested I give my HAED away as a Christmas present!!!!!!!

Re: Nachstenliebe's First SAL here!
I agree with what everyone is saying. If all the hard work and effort you put into a piece is not appreciated then its not worth it. I say you should keep it, if your aunt by marriage isn't going to appreciate it! I love the castle! I was thinking of doing just this one myself. Good choice. The end result must be loved!
I totally agree, some people just don't get it! Its not easy!

Re: Nachstenliebe's First SAL here!
Wow you did a ton! I'm gonna have to second and third what everyone else has said! I don't know if I would be as kind as you to stitch something that has taken such hard dedicated work to someone who isn't very fond of me! But you never know, maybe it will help change her mind. It really is beautiful!
