A book is a splendid idea! You could either back each piece with felt, or (a bit more expensive :-( ) with the same fabric as it is stitched on, using a biscornu finish -- you could insert card between the two layers to make it stiffer, and perhaps a little thin wadding to soften the outlines. If you make sure you leave extra fabric on the left, you can then sew them all together on that side, making a spine.

Or if you want to keep adding to it, why not get a ring folder, cover it in (embroidered) fabric, then in the extra fabric on the left of each "page" make two round "buttonholes" which you can then pop over the two metal bits that hold everything to gether (not explaining ti very well but I don't know what the parts are called!)

I was looking at the sizes, well, the first one, wills just fit in an A4 size binder, there will very little left at the top and bottom... but I don't mind: a book/binder it is going to be. The new one I have already re-designed and I will stitch it on two "pages" facing each other. :)
Starting tonight, after choir, I don't think I will be able to wait any longer...

Haven't had much stitching time, but here is the second one, black and white on a darker natural linen:

and a closer picture (I have always wanted to take one of these "slanted" photos, saw them on different blogs  )

One half of it done. The whole picture:

Poetry book in the making

Post by agi »

I have finished the second one - not washed or ironed yet, I just put the two parts next to each other, forgive it being so clumsy.

Image

Here is a close up of the second part :

And now comes the difficult part: putting them together.
I bought this - not a very good picture, but you can see:
Image

it's a binder but it itself can be decorated with stitching in a window - but if I want, the cover, too. Do I want? Of course! But this is going to be my long term project. The white pieces inside are the A4 size cardboard pieces I bought to be put between the two stitched pieces - so the folder itself is a bit bigger than A4.

My only problem was... I don't know what you call those little metallic things you use for making holes in the fabric: you put two pieces together, and have to use a special tool to hit them and they form a ring - not easy to describe. I found them in a hobby-shop but they were so expensive I didn't want to spend that much money.
So, if anyone has any ideas where to find cheap ones, with the tool too (I cannot search because don't know the word  ), or has any other ideas how to make holes for the rings, please, share them. (I was thinking perhaps buttonholes? Algerian eyelets don't make big enough holes, do they?)

And of course, I will only be able to make one "page" now: the first poem, and the first part of the second one. For the second part I will need one more for the back - because I want these two form a pair when you open them. But I need to stitch some other things before the next poem. And haven't decided yet what it will be.

Do you think I can include songs, too? Perhaps with notes as well? :)

This is going to be really lovely.
Do you mean an "eyelet setter"? I also want one but can't quite justify the cost.
