Lovely - the combination of the colors and geometry is very striking. Beautiful work, especially for a needle craft you've just started!

Susan both works are beautiful. I too am one that is in awe of hardanger but the thought of cutting fabric that I have worked so hard on scares me too. Maybe one day.

Mags thanks for the links, they've been very helpful. Between you and the lovely lady at Tudor Rose this morning I've actually figured out how to make a cushion and finished it    I'll post a photo tomorrow, but right now I'm off for a

Another excellent finish.

HARD-cases. Yes, that would do nicely!

Wow! This is beautiful. I love the delicacy of those little squares on each side. :applesauce: :applesauce:

I think HARD-cases is perfect! It's going to take me a while to work up to trying this, but they're so beautiful I definitely want to at some point.

Beautiful, Susan! What is the cross-like filling stitch in the centre?

Sorry it's taken so long to post this - my DH took my camera to work this week and I just got it back this morning. Thanks everyone for the kind comments. I'd encourage anyone to try this, it's really not so difficult and in a lot of ways easier than cross stitch as you don't have to follow a chart constantly. I've got to say I'm totally hooked on hardanger now

Mabel the big cross stitches are called Spider's Web Filling on the instructions, but everywhere else I've looked, spider's web filling is a round filling stitch :? :? Basically you stitch a large half cross then wind the floss round and round it several times and bring the needle back into the original start position - so you get a reinforced half cross - same again for the other half cross stitch. Does that make any sense at all :?

So here is Peridot completed as (my first ever) cushion:

The hardanger embroidery is gorgeous and it looks great as a cushion. I'd be too scared of it getting ruined to actually use it though
