Oh I'm glad I caught up with this. I'm keen to hear how you find the gridding with fishing line works out.
You've made a great start already.

Haven't done a lot on this, as I was finding it very difficult to see the different shades while stitching at night. OH kindly just arranged a magnifier lamp for my table, so hopefully things will go more quickly. Could it be that, since he chose this design, he has an ulterior motive?

Nah . . .
Here's the latest progress. Coverage in the dark area is not great, but it's supposed to be a starry night, so maybe that will look OK. Also have to add some beads (stars) later . . .

Great progress. I'm sure the coverage will get better as you go along and will be even better when you come to add the beads

It's coming along really well. Adding beads for stars will be such a great effect.

Well, the magnifier lamp is now installed - takes some getting used to. Tricky to get the right angle so it magnifies correctly, without being too close to the fabric, as I need to leave room for my stitching hand!
I'm sure it will just take time to sort out. It does make things easier to see - including mistakes!

A little more done, so it's looking more symmetrical . . .
The magnifier light helps somewhat, but I'm finding it awkward to use -- hard to get the focus right, then I keep hitting it as I stitch. Trial and error, I guess.
I've also tried using the stand I've had for years but never used. Still can't get into that either. I find it a pain to turn the frame over to start a new thread. I did switch to a smaller set of Q-Snaps, as the larger one was too hard to hold onto. Moan, groan . . . !!
