Just to be different, I'll say that you really have got the hang of the square fillet stitch so that the eye is drawn to the optical illusion of the series of circles. Only works when the needleweaving is spot on. Well Done Mabel!

Re: Mabel's WIPs
I don't know how I missed the butterfly when I posted before, but I did. I've only just spotted it!
It looks gorgeous Mabel, you're so clever to be able to do this.

Re: Mabel's WIPs
Praise from the master (mistress?) is praise indeed -- thank you Serinde!
I've started my little folk sampler, which is one of those projects that I have no idea what to do with when it's finished
but I just like it. I'm stitching it on marbled 28ct in a milky coffee colour, using Gentle Art Sampler Threads and Weeks Dye Works. Not much yet but it's a start:

And I also did some more on the pup -- so far it's looking terribly dark for a yellow labrador, but then I did start with the shadowy bits, so I'm hoping the colours will even out:

I've also just found some absolutely must-stitch tulip charts in an old New Stitches, so I'll be having a lot of variety

I think the pup looks fine. I'm sure the colours will even out as you carry on. He is rather adorable.

Re: Mabel's WIPs
Didn't have quite so much time to stitch yesterday as I'd hoped, but I managed some lovely hours sitting by the back window overlooking the sunny garden with all the snowdrops and crocuses!
My canvas and skein of blue wool came for the Necessities Sampler, I've chosen golden yellows instead of browns, and added a brown for the tree trunks -- I tried as much as possible to use the colours I already had! This will be made into a patch for my travelbag:

Then I did some more work on the folk sampler, soon I hope to proceed from letters to the interesting birds, cherries, flowers and watermelon (!) motifs

And remember I mentioned some "must stitch" tulips? This is the start of the first of them. I'm stitching them on black Quaker cloth, they'll all use Petite Treasure braid for the outlines but different threads for the coloured parts -- this one uses Chameleon Threads Shades of Africa, which is overdyed Soie d'Alger:
