Well thankyou as always for all the comments, remember to keep :poke: me!

I've around 200 black stitches to fill in to complete the bottom left hand page :) In the meantime, I've downloaded and after a bit of a struggle finally printed this cross stitch alphabet - it's from the same free patterns website as those peacocks mentioned in general posts. Had a devil of a job to get all the letters to print though without making PC and/or printer unhappy! So I'm keeping them as my master set!

My plan is to stitch the name of the piece at the bottom, and my initials & dates it was stitched from & to in the corner. I've been tinkering about with lettering all morning and although these are bigger than usual backstitch alphabets, I think these are the way to go considering the size of this piece! I want it to be readable when it's up on the wall.

Only thing I need to decide is whether to stitch the letters in burgundy or black, what does everyone think?

:thinks:

I've got that alphabet too, and you're right, the size that the whole thing is you need letters that are a bit bigger than 3 stitches high!

Black may be a bit harsh, but you don't want them too light or bright -- they have to inform but not distract, right? I'd probably go for a very very dark burgundy -- as legible as black but a bit softer.

You're right, Mabel... I will probably go for 154 :thinks: And with them being letters rather than a fully stitched design, I'm thinking I'll have to do full crosses  I don't like full crosses anymore! Haven't done any since last year!!!!!

On the plus side, when I send it in to HAED to get my free chart it'll definitely be a unique piece, so no chance of them suspecting forgery!!

*imagines someone nicking a friend's finished HAED and stitching their own name on it :-) *

But Louise, on such a small count tent stitch may work all right for the letters, after all they're fairly chunky so they should stand out even in tent stitch

Did I read right, you only have 200 stitches to go?!!!

What are you planning on doing next?

Oops no, I meant I had 200 sts left on my current page, I've now 7 pages left to do - they're a little bigger than all the other pages as they include a partial page at the bottom of each one.

As for what I'm doing next..... I'm planning to start a HAED rotation, and work on a page at a time like Sarah is doing with Floatilla & Bubble, although not sure how many I'll work on at once! I have two kitted up and am wondering about a beachy/summery one as by the time Queenie is finished and I'm well on with the new ones I might want something a bit summery! Watch this space!

Mabel, I'll give it some more thought as to whether to go with tent stitch.... I might do... but that might be down to laziness

You asked for a :poke:  Have some :choc: to go with it too :D

Stitching your name at the bottom sounds great. I'd agree with Mabel about colour. A thought though (and a slightly cheeky one, having read your post on Medea) - how about experimenting with a blend - a black or dark brown and a burgundy. Just to help it be distinct from the design but not so distinct that it's overly noticeable.
