Finished Blackthorn    and it's come out as I hoped it would (surprise surprise :-)), with quite a strong contrast between very dark, spiky thorns and very light, round, lacy blossoms

Here's a close up of one of the blossoms against a dark background:

 WOW AMAZING MABEL :stars: :stars: :stars: :stars: :stars: :stars:

That is most unusual and so different and what a contrast with the pointiness of the central motif to the delicate lacy blossoms. I could see that done with a very dark blue central motif and the blossoms in a pale pink or even variegated soft pinks; or dark purple centre with pale mauve blossoms. Mmmmm my mind is buzzing. :applesauce: :applesauce: :applesauce: :applesauce: :applesauce:

I have got to do some cross stitching and quilting especially the latter -darn it.

Thank you Sally! I was thinking the blossom motifs would work individually for cards, and then you could definitely do them in any colour you liked :-)!

I like your idea of pale pink blossoms, I suppose the design would work as a sort of apple blossom one too, with the brown diamond representing the dark branches :thinks: thanks for giving me new ideas!

Fabulous Mabel - as usual. :applesauce: :applesauce:

I was thinking a green for the centre and bright red / orange for the blossoms with a very dark centre like a Poppy as the leaves are a bit spiky. Then there's the rest of the flower garden the list is endless. Now all I need is to get the chart.

Very dramatic and it does remind me of the Blackthorn bushes we have in our hedgerow.

Clever idea, Squirrel to use different colours. There are lots of spiky bushes with thorns that have flowers in pale pinks etc.

We have a Flowering Japonica....nasty thorns but the flowers are lovely salmon pink.

Wendy, the apricot/pink of the japonica blossom would be fabulous and
how about dark green for the spikey leaves, DMC 666 for centre and blossoms in variegate Christmasy colours??? or done in blues and white for Christmas too or use soft green fabric with Caron's apple blossom thread.

Stop it, I am supposed to be cutting out a quilt top this morning not thinking up colours schemes for future stitching - although it is nice that my colour schemeing has come back. :D
