And I've got a teeny-weeny burgundy-red satin box that is just the thing to "finish finish" him - it'll be snug, but I think it will frame him just right.
Pics tomorrow, when I'm posting a FoF about him as well.
Meet Ethelnute the Ready - he had a green line of couching removed at a very late stage because I didn't like the look of it but I am very pleased with how he has turned out.
Although the kit came with an oval flexi-hoop for framing him I decided to go with a small satin box I happened to have; it's a snug fit but I rather like the way it makes him the focus of the thing!
(More detail about the stitching process on FoF)
Absolutely fantastic! And incredibly lifelike with that expression on his face. I expect he is wondering where the rest of his body is.

Wonderful stitching -- hard to believe you've not an expert in this technique -- and a good solution. Now he won't be languishing in a drawer, but be out being useful. Good thing for any king!
Podolyanka wrote:Mabel, you are a real master of perfection. The embroidery itself is fantastic, plus you turned it into such a beautiful thing. Very well done
I could not say it in a better way. Brilliant work!

Mabel, Ethelnute is absolutely perfect, not only the stitching, and oh my what stitching that is, but he is sitting perfectly within that box, it looks like it was made for him.
Beautifully stitched & usefully mounted. Really nice little piece.
The question is.. Did you enjoy it enough to do a huge piece? Have we just seen the preparatory stage for the next Syon Cope?
Not a cope, no - but there are rumours of a Queen and a unicorn (though not together). You know me Richard, I'm a Small Project girl; I know most of the copes consisted of lots and lots and lots of small projects, if you choose to look at it like that, but still too much of a commitment, especially for a Baptist who is unlikely to get her minister to wear it!
But I am definitely hooked and will be doing more Opus Anglicanum style work.
On the Mary Corbet FB group someone posted a picture of a poinsettia she'd stitched using tapestry wool and woven picots; I didn't have any tapestry wool, but I found some 4-ply yarn I bought for crochet last year and that works too! I'd have liked a darker green and a brighter yellow, but I had to make do with what I had .
The whole flower (plant?) is about 5cm.
