Just now in the garden our buddleia was playing host to 4 peacocks, 3 tortoiseshells, 2 red admirals and 1 meadow brown, with a couple of whites (unidentified) fluttering in the vicinity. Just watching all that colourful activity made me smile :-)

Fleabags... Who'd have them?

It is very hard to understand why a cat does something. I usually feel it's because they've thought long & hard about the most sensible way to do it, and then choose a way that has no relationship to that sensible way, all out of sheer cussedness.

Richard

Richard, I see it as having examined all the possible sensible ways, cats find them sorely lacking, and find other, untested, ways because they are all so very clever.

Yesterday evening it was quite lovely in the garden, so as we have two benches near our back door I went to sit on one with Tracy. The 4 seater was occupied. By a single cat. He was fast asleep and stretched out as far as he'd go. He's 3ft7in (94cm) from tip of nose to tip of tail, and his front legs were stretched out even further. He was smack bang in the middle of the bench, so there was nowhere to sit at all. We ended up sitting on the smaller bench.

Anyway, here's my little wry smile today:

About 3/4s the way down this page: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-china-58196663 there is a video of the Chinese Elephants which starts with 22 seconds of a calf getting comfortable.. I've watched it 3 times so far, the little one is so cute.

That’s a great video. I love that they rehabilitate and release.

And I’ve decided that hedgehogs are among the cutest critters ever.

Second only to cats, I agree with you Debby.

We haven't seen them in our garden this year, but as they are mostly insectivores and it's been wet, maybe they have had a surfeit of insects on the bank & don't need to come closer to the house.

What insects do they eat? It’s good to know they are cute and helpful. :-)

They will eat most insects they come across, the commonest types they eat are "arthropods" such as Beetles, Earwigs, etc.

But Hedgehogs are omnivorous so will eat almost anything edible they come across on the ground, including some plant material, ripe fruits, and bird table debris. They will also take birds eggs if they come across a nest on the ground. Think of them as opportunist eaters, which means they will also participate in any bowls of dog or cat food they come across

A very large hedgehog ate our garlic pate when we were camping in France!! :tantrum:
We had put it outside the tent because it was cooler there. Next morning...no pate just the wrapping some way away. Next night a snuffling and a grunting and there was a garlic breathing hedgehog under the fly sheet of the tent.  :tizzy:
