I can certainly tell where the backstitching is!

It's a lot of work, but well worth it

This is looking fantastic! I love how the backstitch brings out all the details in the picture. TW's designs are beautiful, but a pain to stitch with the tweeding (blending), lots of partial stitches, and intricate backstitch. The end results are worth it though! Wonderful work Fljotsdale!

You have my full admiration for even contemplating this design! The backstitch is coming on wonderfully, and really making it 'pop'!
So how does the chart describe what colour to use where for backstitch? Are the lines different, eg long dots, short dots etc, or just described on where to use what colours?

Backstitch complete on pink area of wing. This part was VERY daunting! I really didn't want to do it - but neither did I want it hanging over my head! Lots of quarter stitches in the basic design to match up with the backstitching, and I was dreading it in case I had misplaced any of the quarter stitches - happily it was all correct! This was the most difficult area of backstitch in the whole design - and, in fact, the most difficult, I think, that I have ever had to do; therefore, it is the bit I am most proud of having done.
Burgundyice - it is just straightforward backstitch, stitch by stitch, though sometimes a long stitch for sloping bits going over two stitches xx from bottom of first to top of second, for example. Nothing complicated. The chart does NOT indicate what colour to use where by marking it in colour on the chart. MOST annoying. It just has a list telling what colours to use where, and sometimes it can be VERY confusing where two colours are mixed up together on the same bit of chart. Grrrrrr!
And thanks for all the nice comments, everyone! I appreciate the encouragement!

Well I must say your hard work paid off as the backstitching around the 'feathers'? in the pink bit of his wings has made it look fantastic!

Oh dear god, that's a colossal amount of back-stitching! You must have the patience of a saint... or an avid stitcher... It looks gorgeous. Well worth the effort.

Gosh, girls, you have me blushing!
I've done the man's hands and head, and have now moved over to the right border, because, apart from that, I have all but completed the backstitch on pages one and two, and I want to scroll up the pic to get at the bottom two pages. I can hardly wait to get it done so that I can do the gold and beadwork.
