I never knew that Hardanger could look so gorgeous before I saw yours, Mabel. You are in a league of your own.

Thanks all
After all that pastel work on Berrington I wanted something a bit brighter, and so I took "Spring" but stitched it on red fabric using Caron Wildflowers for the colour bit. Not exactly spring-like anymore, but it was fun to do

. I will now do them all as they were intended

and also two more in the same style which I've called Day & Night. After quite a few large projects I was ready for some small quick stitches!

Here's the first of the "standard" seasons, Autumn. It uses only DMC perles, so it quite a good one for someone who doesn't want to invest too much in speciality stash (are there people like that???). The series, together with Day & Night, uses five different types of covered bar and six types of filling (one of which I think I invented

), and several speciality stitches, so it's almost like a sampler of Hardanger stuff

. Not surprising as it started out as charts for the stitching course.
Anyway, Autumn. The speciality stitches here are buttonhole wheels, I've included a close-up. They're quite textural, a bit fiddly but they give a nice 3D feel to it. Slightly worried they'll make it too thick for the coaster I planned for it

but we'll see

When I see your designs all I want is to learn how to do Hardanger and only do that and when I see the HAED designs all I want to do is those. Besides other things that need doing. So I guess I will have to move the "other things" lower down on my priority lists.
Your design is just beautiful. Even if I don't get to do them (soon) I truly enjoy looking at them.

So, I've been having a bit of a design-feast

, because I really liked the basic shape of the Seasons quartet. I ended up charting three sets of four, all using the same diamond-within-a-square as a starting point, but using different fillings, satin stitch motifs and speciality stitches. I've designed them more or less to be a good "practice set", as together they contain:
Kloster blocks
satin stitch
double cable stitch
chain stitch
four-sided stitch
woven bars
wrapped bars
double wrapped bars
X-bars
dove's eye
square filet
spider's web
fan stitch
Greek cross
woven twisted bars
bow-tie stitch
woven picot filling
Rhodes stitch
Queen's stitch
Algerian eye
eyelet
buttonhole wheel
star stitch
French knot
sheaf stitch
rice stitch
long-armed Smyrna stitch
Chinese lantern
And in the end you've got 12 card-sized projects
Here's a peek at the three series.
Seasons (Spring Summer Autumn Winter)
Compass (North East South West)
Round the Clock (Morning Noon Evening Night)
