A birth sampler for a friend of mine who recently had her second little boy. We met through our sons, so I didn't know her beforehand to stitch a sampler for her first son. However, this is a very special occasion - her second son, Baxter, is a bit of a miracle. They found out at 22-weeks pregnant that he has spina bifida and hydrocephalus and the doctors were pretty sure he wouldn't make it to full term, let alone survive. He beat the odds by being born at 37.5 weeks at c-section and then 2 days later had major surgery to close his spine and drain fluid from his brain. He's doing great and they have had him home for over a week now, so I felt a little sampler to celebrate both her lovely boys was in order. Theyr'e a particularly religious family, and I know their faith helped them a great deal through their trying time, so although I'm not religious at all, I felt the "gift from God" quote was very appropriate. I've framed it and will be handing it over next time I see her (hopefully some time in the next week or so).

The Night Circus is al lin black and white with the Reveurs wearing touches of red, so I wanted t okeep with that colour scheme. I liked the mysterious swirls that were featured on my copy of the novel, so I incorporated those into the design, along with a heart-shape repeating throughout as there are several romantic connections in the story, some which are in direct opposition to others, so I turned half the hearts the opposite direction. With The Night Circus being somewhat unusual and at a tangent to the rest of the world in the story, I designed it to be stitched diagonally across the fabric.

I'm really happy with how it all turned out. I charted it for a single colour (black on white) and let myself kind of meander into the colour changes while I was stitching. :)

I didn't like the design that came with the magazine freebie kit, so I charted something else. The chart will be available on my Knicavel Krosses blog in a few days...
