This really is so much fun to stitch up--yet another update to show.

The leaves were definitely time consuming but I really like how they look even without the backstitching done yet

very pretty. love the colors. I love Kingfishers. I have one that hangs around the creek behind my house. Sometimes I see her dive. They are great birds.

I am soooooooooo jealous!! I wish that there were a few of them in my area--they are extremely interesting creatures to watch.

A few years ago a second kingfisher showed up and we had the biggest kingfisher battle. If I can find the picture my husband took I will post it. They chased each other around and around and then flew into the picture window by our bedroom. No damage. But they were both knocked out. He got a picture of them both laying down on the ground. Then all of a sudden it was like they both got their breath back and off they flew again. One eventually won the war I guess and got her territory back.

Great update Karen! The leaves have such nice shading to them they almost don't need backstitch.
Carole: wow! I haven't seen a Kingfisher in a few years. They used to hang around our area, but something has clearly changed recently. Do yours look like Karen's pattern? I'm curious as I really thought they only looked like
this, the Belted Kingfisher. I've never seen the Common Kingfisher.

I've only seen the belted kingfishers as well--but it's really difficult finding a nice cross stitch chart for them. This design just was begging to be stitched--I love the colors in it

Ours our belted Kingfishers. Its a female which hangs around here. I have not see a common Kingfisher either though I would like to. Actually, "my" kingfisher usually leaves in the summer, I guess for breeding somewhere and will be back again in the fall, though I think they do breed here in SC, my backyard isn't the right kind of habitat for nesting I think. Good for feeding though as it is a tidal creek so lots of little fishies for wading birds and one kingfisher.
I like to look for bird patterns so I will see if I can find one for a belted kingfisher and let ya'll know.
