I was thinking didn't Mabel do a coaster where she dipped the fabric in a modge podge type of glue???? You could ask her if it worked to cover the fabric and thread in that way and maybe you could do something similar to protect your stitching.
If you are looking for some one to help change you, look in the mirror
It's really beautiful, Rosemary, no wonder your OH loves it so much.
I think I saw somewhere a nice tabelcloth /runner protected with a piece of glass on top of the table. Isn't that an option?

I have bought a small sheet of thin persplex to put in the top of my box of fans once I have stitched something to for it and I think that there is enough for the little table too so will probably protect my cloth that way. Depends on how I finish off the edges too because if they are too bulky it will not work.
Well then. Why don't you just fray the edges? That is not bulky

This is wonderful Rosemary!
Would you be able to show us the finished product once you decide for definate how to display it? I'm curious to see how it looks with the perspex on top.
I think it's going to be great!
There's nothing better than a good friend, except a good friend with CHOCOLATE! Forget love! I'd rather fall in CHOCOLATE!

Rose, yes I did paint a fabric circle (stitched with DMC and metallics) with white PVA glue (wood glue). You need to paint it on quite thick, then leave it to dry (in an airy place cause it smells rather...) and it'll be stiffish and damp proof (don't upset a whole glass of water over it, but it's fine with a few drops). The metallics were just as sparkly after the glue coating as before!
I thought that you might like to see how I finished off the blackwork by making it into a table mat/doiley. Trouble is I found some lovely cotton lace to surround it and did not think about what the size the finished article would be so it has ended up too big and square for the table that I was going to put it on. Never mind will find somewhere else for it or maybe have to buy a new hall table as that is where I think it would look best because of the colours.
It is fantastic! What a great idea to finish it with the lace! I hope you will display it!
