Your stitching is beautiful before you start the cutting. Do you use special scissors to cut?

The Greek crosses look very neat and regular :applesauce: :applesauce:

Is there a darker filling stitch in the other cut areas, or is that a pattern showing through from the background you're photographing it on?

Freelady, I just use very sharp embroidery scissors. You can get special hardanger scissors, but I haven't tried these. Mabel you are eagle eyed   It's actually the fabric underneath the piece that you can see. I'm going to get this framed and am trying to decide what colour the backing board should be. It makes quite a difference to the look of the design. This time I've got some cream fabric underneath it. I'm not sure what colour I should use - one of these or a completely different one.

Anyway, here is the finished project - I have loved every minute of stitching this one

It's beautiful! And you're right, the choice of backing colour can really change the look of a piece like this, so take your time until you're absolutely happy with it -- this deserves to have the perfect backing!

Susan, do you mean the hardanger scissors with bent blades (if that's the right term), well, at an angle? One of the ladies at my stitching group uses them and said I could try them as I was cutting my butterfly. I couldn't get on with them, so i was happy that I'd had the chance to try them out because I'd thought of buying a pair, and now I know a very sharp pair of stork scissors work best for me (Serinde, i still haven't got the hang of the Stitch Direct precision scissors -- I do think I'll put them up for swaps :-( )

I think I might have to take it into a framing shop and try out different colours there - although I actually quite like it with just a white background.

I did mean these weird looking scissors! I have been using stork scissors too so I'll probably just stick with them - although they started to squeak last week
