Update time...
What I've stitched so far on the first flying piggies: (the colours in the photo have come up a bit bright). I changed the colour of the text to black instead of the dark grey used on the pigs, because I couldn't get grey beads to match (I used them instead of the french knots)

I don't like the wings that are meant to be stitched under the text (see pic below) but it looks like something is missing so my mum suggested that I just stitch one of the pigs faces (the one in the pic below)

Love the pigs and the wording and I agree about not using the wings, they do look odd.

The other work is great too and you are going well to get it all done by Christmas, which is looming fast.

Hope it is not too hot up there. I find stitching in the heat difficult to say the least. I now sit with the small fan on the table beside me which helps heaps.

I love the way you worked out the lettering, and the pigs are so cute :-) --- is it a Margaret Sherry design?

I've yet to do the little piggies face as I had already moved on to my next project - 5 stars. (4 for christmas presents and a try out which I get to keep). I got the design from this website: La Fee Rie

What the finished front design will be and the cross stitch finished on the first front of the star:
ImageImage

I was really suprised with the size that the star came out as when I stitched the outline but now that I've filled in the cross stitch I think that I'm okay with it. Its on a cream 28ct evenweave over 2, and I don't have a higher count fabric suitable (or the time to get some and get these all stitched by Christmas) and doing it over 1 wouldn't suit the back.

The back will be the text "Merry Christmas 2009" stitched in a cursive backstitch (I love having AutoCAD at my disposal - I was able to insert the text, explode it into a series of lines and then fiddle with them so that they aligned with a grid I'd drawn up) in Anchor Perle #5 Metallic (white with metallic gold through it) on a christmas green fabric.

I plan on leaving all the beads until I've stitched the front of all 5 (I've managed to get them all to fit one one 45cmx50cm piece of fabric) as I'm sure that my frame will overlap the stars and I'm tossing up which I'll use. The chart calls for Mill Hill #165, which is a pinky red with pearly effects, but I also have Mill Hill#2013 which is a very solid red (which I think suits the design better). I may do a mixture of the two.

Mill Hill 165 and then 2013:

The star is really beautiful and will make wonderful presents.

I like the idea of mixing the 2 lots of beads, gives a bit more depth.

What a gorgeous design, but I'd hate to have to make up anything in a star shape, you brave girl!

I think I like the second lot of beads better, more depth of colour, but mixing them might be even beter as it gives variety :thinks: :thinks: -- looking forward to seeing these develop!

Well in all the chaos that's going on about me at the moment (my dance concert is on this Saturday night, so there's final rehearsals happening, along with last minute additions to costumes etc, plus work is really busy) I've managed to add the little piggy's face to the bottom of my aunt's christmas present, as well as finishing all the stitching on my first star.

ImageImage

This is the front of the first star finished. I finished the back yesterday but haven't had a chance to get a photo of it yet. My thread heaven has been a saviour at the moment as all the gold backstitch is done in DMC metallic gold (including the outline of each star! )
