I should get a needle minder. My habit is to stick them in the left front of whatever I am wearing. Can't believe how many needles I have "lost" only to discover a slew of them on the front of my bathrobe or sweater.
Keep posting pictures! They are great to see.
Cheers

Oh you should! I just bought mine and it's awesome. I couldn't decide between the cat and the purple flower one (loves cats, love the color purple) so I *might* have to get another.

Love your ornaments!! Such a clever idea to make one for the kids each year!

And another one bites the dust! =)
A friend I had back in high school loves penguins so I asked her if she wants to do a small gift exchange this year (I always ask and put a reasonable dollar limit on it depending on the person because I don't want to surprise them with a gift and then make it awkward) and she said yes, so I found someone for whom this will be displayed for many years to come!
I also purchased this pattern "Seasons of Love" by Little House Needleworks for myself & my husband, however, I think I might be making this twice, once for myself and once for my cousin who is getting married in May. I wanted to cross stitch something for her for the wedding, but I'm unsure if she would appreciate it, so I thought I would do an ornament and see her reaction. My husband also told me he didn't want me to go through all that work for something that would never be displayed. When I got married in January she hand made things for me, so I think she would appreciate it, but I'm still on the fence. Anyways, after that ramble:
It uses DMC and Crescent Colors (which I actually bought this time!), and I must say there are so many knots on the back accidentally. It looks really terrible, but I'm lazy and it's going to be an ornament anyway so no one will know!
I'm also still on the fence on if I should "sign" these or not. I've never done it before, with the exception of my MIL present, so thoughts? Do you ladies sign yours when giving them as gifts, or even just normally?

Love the penguin and I think the ornament is a great idea. Depending on the piece I may put my initials and the date on the bottom. With the afghans I did for family members, in one of the boxes I would often backstitch something like To (name), love (Carole or Gramma depending on who it was for) and the date. I have had a few gifts that I was so eager to give and get a reacation from that I forgot to add my initials and a date. So posterity will have to wonder who and when if they show up on an Antiques Road Show in 2113

. I think it is nice to put your initials and the date (at least the date) on a gift if there is space.

Good idea to do the ornament first. Nothing worse than finding your work stuck in a drawer or something.

Finished two more:
and then again on a different piece of fabric, the label said this was 28 count, but I'm 99% sure it lied and it's actually 32, which made it a lot harder, but it still turned out well. I was hoping for more contrast, but I think it still looks fine.
I'm still waiting for one more pattern from 123stitch and I finished the second ornament early afternoon so I pulled out my Chat. I did a bit more after this picture was taken, but you get the gist.
Also, to whom ever mentioned colonial knots you are AWESOME (somewhere random in the forum). I did those instead of french knots and they were WAY easier! You rule!
Thanks for looking!

Great updates. And another convert to colonial knots...yay! I like doing them so much more than French knots.
