Thank you all for your lovely comments. :I am going to be several days doing the bottom right corner as several colours. Then all that needs doing it the bits that are outside the frame. On the way to a finish now & as most is half stitch it has not taken as long as I thought it would :D .

Overlook Cafe - 2nd June

Post by lavenderbee »

Thank you Imme. :D

Latest update - 2 photos, normal & cropped. I am going to take another 4 week break before completing it. The bottom right section was intense as a lot of colours & although I wanted to start the backstitch, that is intense too so thought A break a good idea. Will do 4 weeks on Fragrant Tranquillity & then come back to this.

The backstitch will really bring fine detail to this, but I guess there's quite a lot. Good idea to come back refreshed and then finish :applesauce:

:applesauce: :applesauce: Such a pretty update! I'm sure there will be lots of back stitching, but it will really make this piece perfect. The chairs are just one beautiful example of what backstitching can do!

:whoop: Well Done on finishing all the main stitching and my goodness how gorgeous it all is. I can well imagine how consuming is the concentration needed for all that back stitching and a great idea to relax with something else for a while. the chairs

Thank you all. I have enjoyed stitching this & will be sorry to see it finished in one way but it will be nice to have it framed & hanging on a wall.

I had thought of backstitching the tables after doing the chairs but it was fiddly so did a bit of the balustrade along the lake side instead. There are 6 different colours of backstitch to do in one strand plus very small amount in 2 colours with 2 strands. 2 lazy daisy colours on bottom right flower bush - they go across where the white is left unstitched, & finally French knots in 2 separate colours. But as has been said it will all add, dare I say it, Dimensions to the picture, sorry about awful pun but could not resist it  .

DH was saying last night it looks 3D. The trees on right at top edge of lake are in 3 & 4 strands half cross stitch so stand out. The variations in the sky are 2 & 1 strand blue to make it varied & the lake itself is in 2 & 1 thread so adds depth to it. When doing the 4 strands half cross stitch used a larger needle as although it made a bigger hole in the Aida it was easier to pull 4 threads through. Some of the single stitches to be done were hard to see when next to stitches with more than 2 strands. Next time I have a project like this I will highlight the singles left to be done in a different colour as several times I had to test with needle to see if one single strand was already there or not in the middle of several stitches of colour. I know many of you leave the confetti until the end but I am happier doing it as I go along or once a block of colour in that area has been done. I need to get them done as soon as I can or else I can't relax

Last thing to say today - the colours are brighter than come up on screen but they are not garish. When I first undid the kit I was surprised how vivid some were but once you are halfway through picture they sit together nicely & I don't need sunglasses
