Why? Are you so fond of Sindy dolls that you have an irrational hatred of Barbies?
My eldest daughter had seven or eight 'Action Men' when at the appropriate age, and one Sindy, who was the damsel in distress, and was always rescued just too late (because it was a cliché that the damsel was rescued just in time, and even at age 5 she disliked clichés [though she didn't know the word 'cliché' at the time, just thought it was too easy for the writer]). I did worry about her at that age, she hasn't changed, but I have given up worrying now.

Perhaps you could encourage your daughter to have her damsels rescued in plenty of time, which would also overturn said cliché?

Reminds me of the film Galaxy Quest (cast of a science fiction series get picked up by real aliens who believer their series was a historical document), where one of the main characters has to hit a bit button to stop a self-destruct time. It's on about half a minute, he hits the button, and the timer just keep going. He and his co-star say the sort of things you say to each other when you think you're going to die in 29 seconds, but when the timer gets to 1, it stops anyway. "Of course", he says, "the time always stopped at one!"

In for a and . I think I've sorted out a problem with one of my groups... It's time for the end of year accounts, and the treasurer couldn't access HMRC for organising a Gift Aid refund. It seemed unlikely that the problem was that she is currently stuck in the US (although that doesn't help for other reasons) or that she was using the wrong charity number (she's very capable). So, old admin lag that I am, I got into an online conversation with "Sue" at HMRC, and jolly helpful she was, too. Transpires that our treasurer's name isn't the "official of the charity" presumably because the person who should have organised the change of name after the election didn't. Anyway, it should all be sorted soon. Whew.

I agree. Ironing out those type of admin errors can be such a tangle and volunteering to help sort it out definitely deserves as many as you want.We have an endless supply!

Need another coffee -- trying to figure out why I can't open a pdf (of all things). Yes, I've updated Adobe... Great things, computers, when they work. Plus the bank, for reasons entirely of its own, decided to open our new stitching group's account in a branch probably as inconveniently situated as possible. I've no doubt that our treasurer will deal with it...

That's the Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers AGM done and dusted. Went very well. Now that all the admin is out of the way, I look forward to actually doing a bit of weaving!

Hurray! Admin is all very well and necessary, but it's the weaving (etc.) that's the main thing. How are things going with the Embroiderers' Guild as was? I hope your group is managing to find its feet.

As it's raining raining raining here (good for the garden, not complaining) and I am nearly done with work for today (another hour should do it) I can then hopefully put in some solid work on Bruce!

Our new stitching group is on its feet, with a bank account, committee, and a place to meet, etc. Luckily for us, our chairperson is really on the ball - former school head, so you can imagine she knows which way is up. Don't quite know how to thank her enough. We should have our first meeting, I think either this June or (more likely) September.

I need a drink but I can't have a real one yet so will have a virtual one here!
Working on Bruce's front leg which is by far the most challenging part so far, never mind all the kerfuffle with the back leg. I have been plunging and securing what feels like 568 metal thread tails, and have the same amount still to go. oh well, at least the front looks quite acceptable

You can have your second drink and a big piece of pie or cake or whatever else sounds appealing. I know that for the certificate they look closely at the back of your piece as well (at least I think you have said that before), but I personally think that unless the back is going to be seen (like maybe an afghan ?) there is a reason it is called a back. And I have a pretty strong feeling that the back of your piece is also pretty perfect too.

I can understand your frustration at plunging and securing but also knowing what i have heard about the RSN the Back must be as Perfect as the Front, despite only being seen by the RSN and yourself!!

Thank you, but fortunately, because you are required to mount your piece, the back is not actually visible - hurray ! The front is quite enough to worry about, because all the oversewing on the back occasionally dislodges or at least nudges something on the front, and then you have to tweak that in turn.
But the front leg is now done - three cheers for Mr Mabel who gave me a large portion of the day off to take my time finishing it - and although it isn't perfect (no, really, it definitely isn't although it has its good points with which I'm very pleased) it's as good as I can make it at the moment and that will have to do.
Now it's definitely time for a big mug of hot chocolate and one of the coconut macaroons we treated ourselves to!
