Sorry about the quality of the photo - battery almost gone and I didn't want to mess about trying to get a better pic. Battery now charging for next photo.

We have a nostril! And the droopy corner of his mouth - and some BLUE! :D

Hiya - not done any more cos busy stitching christmas stuff... BUT I would like your input.

As you will know if you have read the thread already, I started this using 2 over 1, found it too thick, and frogged, and started over with 1 over 1. Which is fine, except for the cover: you can see the black fabric between the stitches.
Anyway, I finally decided to do a test piece (yes, I should have done it before I started! ) because I didn't hace the original bit of stitching for comparison. So, here is the test bit, done with an odd bit of variegated thread, first 2/1 and then 1/1.

Image

If I go for 2/1 I will have to start over (I'm fine with that, btw!) But I'm not sure if it will be a good idea, and I'd like your opinions of which sample bit looks best.

I have almost made up my mind, but I'm still a bit in doubt... :thinks:

Mmm! :thinks: I must admit that 2/1 looks like it has the best coverage. But maybe you are worrying too much because you can see your stitiching up close? Try looking at your stitching from a distance as though it's on a wall (if you see what I mean). I'm sure it will be fine. It would be a shame if you had to start over afte putting in so much work already.

Thanks, Cecilia. :) My main concern, really, is the stitches on 2/1 look lumpy and clumsy, and I'm afraid will look more so in a larger area. You can see the 2/1 bit looks fatter, and the 1/1 bit looks neater and sort of 'daintier' (gosh, what an old-fashioned word!)
Added to which, the amount of thread used is something to consider; as you can see from the pic, I have a much shorter length of double thread left than of single thread (to say nothing of the fact that 2/1 automatically uses more thread).
I never knew before that you could make more stitches with a single thread than you can with a double thread! Though now I know I can see why. I think. Physics was never my best subject... :? (Is it physics...? :? :? )

I agree I would place what you have already stitched on a chair and then take about 5 big steps back and look at the stitching. I bet you will see it differently. Remember it will be on the wall not in your hand when it is finished.

I do think that the 1/1 is going to do just fine--and I think that the 2/1 does have a bit clumsier look to it--just my input :?

I would prefer the 1x1 because it looks neater.... but if it's up on a wall I don't think it's going to really matter either way..

I agree with the others and would go 1x1 -- I often get frustrated with coverage but then after washing the piece everything shrinks down a little and I can never see the "problem areas" once it's framed and on the wall.

Just seen this thread what a lovely pattern. I prefer 1 over 1
