Odessa is stunning That hem stitch is gorgeous. I think this is another design that is going on my wishlist

I wouldn't worry about overlap - I certainly won't mind using stitches I've learned in Around the World in other projects and it will be fun to see them used in a different context and potentially with different materials.

For the SAL, I wouldn't worry about overlap. Especially for us beginneers as the more we practice the better. Plus, some of us (me for eg) are planning on the uncut version for ATW (if I ever get started, that is), though if I get to some of the cut stitching after your SAL I may attempt it.

Its got a few closeups of some new filling stitches that are in their 2012 Hardanger book. Wasn't thinking I would get the book.. but now I think I will.(Their newsletter worked!)

WOW Mabel - Odessa is stunning !

When I saw the Romanian Leaf stitch I thought "that looks like a fly stitch variation....." - sometimes I think we have different names for the same stitch!

I've noticed that quite a lot recently as I've been looking through various books about embroidery; some stitches crop up again and again with different names.
I suppose what happens is that several people or communities come up with the same stitch and give it a name, and while there wasn't much international travel not to mention the internet that was no problem. But now we learn about stitches from lots of different sources, and so we get this bewildering collection of names

I don't mind so much if one stitch has more than one name -- it's when one name is stuck on two or more different stitches that it gets really confusing! One book I have mentions a Rhodes stitch which is nothing like the one we probably all know.

Oh well, as long as the stitch diagrams are clear I suppose it doesn't really matter what we call it

Hi Mabel. Odessa is absolutely stunning. I have often wondered about and wished that I could do Hardanger. This definietely goes on my wish list of to do's. I would love to be as good as you are at it. Linda

Oh my goodness,... that is so gorgeous! What beautiful stitching and such beautiful, subtle color variations (unless that's my monitor). And due to being able to work again I am a go for your SAL!! I was hoping it would be clear by then, and now I know for sure. Can't wait to try more.

I can't be absolutely certain, of course but I don't think it's just your monitor. They are hand-dyed House of Embroidery perles, two shades, one mostly green with some yellow, and one mostly yellow with some green and peach. Lovely to work with!
