I know. When I see something like that, which makes me laugh out loud by myself, I know it needs to be shared. I love that CNN adds a funny video at the end of its daily "5 things you need to know" newsletter. Makes the whole newsletter worth getting!

Almost too tired to think.
Our garage now has a roof. The flashing isn't on, and we need some edging I hadn't expected. The garage has a timber section and brick section. The timber bit built by the previous owners has a 1ft taper on its width, which led to an excessive overhang of the steel. So we overlapped the steel sheets by 1 rib more than anticipated. This means that we need an edging section to cover the exposed top of the original garage brick wall. Slightly annoying, but can cope with it.

However the garage is now more watertight than it has been for a couple of years.

I am so tired. Put in 300 self drilling screws and moved (with help) 6 off 5.5m x 1.15m panels onto the roof, positioned then secured them. I need to go to work for a rest.

Regards,

Richard.

I'm not surprised you're tired! You definitely deserve a rest after all that labour. I hope you manage your work-based rest :-)

We went on a zoo visit with DS, DIL and grandson this weekend and we were pretty floored after that.... you're obviously made of sturdier stuff!

Oh boy.
I was so tired yesterday. It was my turn to cook, but I could barely stand up so Tracy took my turn. By 8pm my hands, feet & knees had seized up and I could just shuffle about. However feeling much better today and sitting in the office chair is doing my joints & muscles absolute wonders.

So, we are now in the run-down to finishing the garage and flood defences. It'll probably take a few more weeks, but think it'll be worth the effort in the long run. I was so glad we had a week free of rain so the Garage electrics could be left on all the time (we have a freezer in another outbuilding which takes its power from the garage). One day I need to do the electrics properly too. I need to put everything in armoured cable etc to keep rats from thoughtfully sitting there and nibbling the insulation off.

The new foundation for the bottom of the timber wall left by the last owners can wait until next year.

Regards,

Richard.

You have worked like an absolute Trojan, Richard. Well done to you both. What a difference this is going to make for you. One less thing to worry about, I hope.

Off to my first RSN Certificate class since February! I sincerely hope they won't ask me to do any major tweaking because I am so "out" of this project :-(
Fingers crossed the mounting goes well; I'll also be writing up my development notes and starting ideas for the Goldwork module.

Good luck! I'm sure that once you are back amongst the group you will be fine!

Yesterday we met ( correct distancing and masks in place) with the developer who is building our new home here. We had a long talk about plans and then looked around a show house, just to get an idea of build quality, fixtures and fittings.
We came away from this with a set of plans, measurements and a Very positive reaction.
As we are now able to go out we have been to look at the site and village where we will be living next summer.
Next week we have to go back to France and collect our goods and chattels. Most of the furniture is staying in France, either for the new owners or sold. We looked into a removal firm but it was eyewateringly expensive.
Now we have to hope that with the new C19 restrictions we can travel.

Sounds so exciting. And that goes for both Mabel and Wendy. Back to class for Mabel which I am sure you will fall right back into and a brand new house with brand new furnishings! I'm getting a new kitchen counter this week and am excited for that. Thinking a new house must feel awesome! or overwhelming.

How wonderful to be able to get a good idea of the new home - fingers crossed all goes well!

I had a lovely time at the RSN class, there were just four students there plus Angela the tutor and it was quite relaxed in a perfectly safe way, which is the best of both worlds :-).
Got quite a bit of the mounting process done, quite challenging and my fingers are sore from pushing about 140 pins into the mount board but happy with my progress so far!

Wendy, you are very brave embarking on having a house built for you. It's one of those dreams that a lot of people have, but few realise. Good for you. Hope it goes well. From watching various programmes like 'Grand Designer's it appears to be rare for a house to be completed on time unless part of a huge development, but it should be an interesting experience. Just make sure you enjoy it when complete.

I have so many ideas for what I'd like in a house, I doubt if I'd be able to incorporate them all in a single one - unless the size of a palace. Shame my budget can't stretch beyond a hovel.

All the best,

Richard.

Richard, I should have said that this bungalow is part of a small development. It's not a one off on a plot of land that we have bought. As we are in at the start of the development there are a few tweaks we can make. It's a timber framed house and one of 27 on the edge of a village.
We did have a romantic idea of a self build but that was just a vague and not practical idea. Grand Designs are right out of our budget!
This builder only builds small developments and we were lucky to find him just as he was planning a new one in the Borders.

An exciting project, and you can have reasonable input + you are on the spot. Win! :D

Just hope you get back and forth to France before more regulations are put into place...

I'm just finishing the last few stitches to an easy WIP! It's only two colours, stamped canvas hahah. Almost feel like it's cheating!
It's a Chinese character 福 (pronounced fu) which means good fortune, blessings, that kind of thing. It's a good word!
Red canvas, black calligraphy with a bright yellow outline.

Yes, fingers well crossed! :?
We now know that the house in France is in a red area so we shall have to be extra careful. :tizzy:
