Good day!! I am about to start my first HAED and the design requires a 25 ct Dublin linen. The problem is, only Aida is available here locally. I have an abundance of Aida 14 ct, can I use a this Aida instead? How much will it affect the design?

And if the design measures 14w x 11h on linen, how about in aida?

Hello Clauie, welcome to the forum!

If something was designed to go on 25ct and you're doing it on 14ct, it will come out quite a lot bigger. That needn't be a problem of course , it's just something to bear in mind.

From the dimensions you give (I'm assuming they're inches -- if centimetres it would be completely different...) I'd calculate the design is about 350 x 275 stitches, so on 14ct it would come to about 25 x 19.5 inches.

If you would prefer to do the design on 25ct after all, have you considered buying over the internet? I don't know where you are, but plenty of online shops in the US and the UK will ship abroad; if the additional postage costs are a problem, you could try using 25ct evenweave instead of linen, this will be a lot cheaper. (Example from Tandem Cottage -- fat quarter (19" x 27") 25ct Dublin linen: £7.25; fat quarter (19" x 27") 25ct Zweigart Lugana £5.50; fat quarter (19" x 30") DMC 25ct evenweave £3.50)

Oh thanks Mabel, it definitely helped me a lot. Good thing I asked first. I might just order online, I don't want to sacrifice the beauty of the design, it might turn out differently. Yikes!

Thanks for the suggestion! I chose 1-2-3 stitch to buy the 25 ct lugana fabric (not really large at the first time) because I have the same problem with the fabric availability. I just purchased them and can't wait for those stuffs to arrive at my front door!

You can do HAED designs on Adia - but as Mabel said they will come out much larger. The actual design shouldn't be affected but it could end up massive - never mind the extra amount of thread needed!! I'm doing one on 18ct Aida at the moment and it will be 23 x 34 inches!!

My first Haed (which I threw away) was started on fabric I didn't knew what it was, but it worked horrible.

The second one I started recently I'm stitching on 18-count aida with 2 threads, and I must say, I love it.

hi cassle I purchased mine from Tandem Cottage. An online shop from my country redirected me there perhaps because their products are cheaper and the shipping is quite decent.

Oooh I see... Where do you live right now, Clauie?

Someone gave me a Tricot fabric.. can I use this for cross stitch? I have no idea on how the count goes so I don't know how to estimate the size of the design. It looks like a 14ct Aida. Has anyone used this fabric?
