Hi everyone!

I added another project to my ever growing list. This time it is a miniature cross stitch house by Meg Evershed. This one to be precise:

It involves stitching on 18 count fabric for the walls and 28 count fabric for the roof and base. You then mount the fabric by lacing onto 7 count plastic canvas, and then ladder stitch all parts to assemble.

My question is this: Do I really need to use 7 count plastic mesh, considering that it will never show? I have some 10 count plastic mesh on hand. Can I substitute that in with no worries?

I don't see why you can't use 10 count if you already have it. Perhaps 7 ct is cheaper to buy and more expendable (10 ct being used for more projects, and so more valuable?). In fact, you could use any semi-rigid piece of whatever, provided

1. You can cut it to exactly the size you need and
2. It is the correct thickness, so that the floor and the walls will come together properly when you ladder stitch them.

Just a thought ..... Would it have anything to do with sewing onto 28ct? Maybe, as 7 goes into 28, it makes it easier to do the lacing and strenghtens the finer count material?

I would've thought that so long as you can cut the plastic to match the size of the finished stitching there shouldn't be a problem with using a different count - but if it is more difficult to match the sizes, because of 10 not going neatly in to 28 like 7 does, then it might be easier to go with 7 count

Hmm... I guess I will just purchase some 7 count plastic canvas next time I'm out shopping just to be safe. I'll save the 10 count canvas for another project. Thanks for the input, guys.
