I bought a piece of pre cut fabric a few days ago to start a small Christmas piece. It was folded so it has creases in it. The crease won't be covered by stitches. Should I get the crease out before I start stitching or can it wait until the piece is finished? How should I get the creases out?

I always use a steam iron to get the creases out before I start. I don't like to iron over stitches once it's done, but that's just my preference. Sometimes it needs a bit of ironing later, but the more I can get out before I start, the better.

I agree, do it before. I find it more of a pain trying to get them out later...

Thank you for the advice. I will go and iron it now before I get started.

I don't worry about the creases in the folded fabric as they will come out as I am stitching, rolling the fabric when I am not stitching and then when I wash and iron it when I am done.

I usually leave ironing until I have finished the project and always iron face down over a fluffy towel. That way the stitches are not squashed down.


The only exception would be if it was linen type favric and had been folded away for some years. I had to wash a piece of Belfast linen today as it had been folded away waiting for me to get motivated to start it. Its an L&L design Angel of the Morning.
