Progressing to evenweave and maybe HAED?

Hi eveyone,

I am sorry if this question is answered elsewhere on this site but i can't seem to find the info i am looking for

I have only used 14, 16 and 18 ct aida but am considering my first HAED. It will be a big leap for me as i have only done about 8 kits on aida

Right, so if i get some 25ct lugana do i need to stitch any differently? I seem to remember reading somewhere (wish i could find it) that stitches can slip???

Any tips would be very gratefully received! Also is there any other other advice on HAED's anyone can give? Ooh and when i think do you have any advice on moving from kits to using charts - i suspect I am considering moving along too quickly but now i know what fab charts there are the temptation is too great
Thanks x Carol

Hi Carol! I've never done a HAED before so I can't help you out there, but I was curious if you had decided on a design that you like?
I mostly work from kits, but have bought a few charts also, and I don't see a problem for you there. The charts are just set up like the patterns that come in the kits as far as I can tell.

I don't think you're moving too quickly. I found my HAED quite easy to start, you soon get used to the tiny stitches, the only difference is the designs are huge!

You can use 18ct aida. That is what I am stitching my Wrath HAED on, I find it easier to use. It just means you will use a few more threads than what is listed and the design will be a bit bigger.

Thanks everyone, wow I have got so much fab advice on here!

Vanessa, you have been so helpful, both on this post and the one I added to your thread of your gorgeous Wrath design. I am just curious, do you know how 'much' bigger the design will be in the end? I noticed you had done yours on 18ct and that really appeals to me so thank you. I just wondered if evenweave was different but i may stick to what i know (aida)since yours looks so beautiful.

Pamela, I have fallen in love with the Wrath design Vanessa is doing and it has really inspired me to try HAED's awesome designs. I haven't had a chance to look at them all yet but i suspect i will be trying Wrath as it is just amazing x

Wrath is a stunning design! If I ever tacke a HAED, I would do it on 18 count aida as I've never worked on anything else except aida. It seems kind of complicated to stitch on evenweave.

Hiya, I just found the link to stitching on evenweave but not sure if i understood it! I have had a look at the 7 deadly sins and now i can't decide between wrath, lust and vanity - they are my favourites. So i now need to decide on a design and a fabric, decisions decisions  x

I am rubbish with computers so cant post a link to the evenweave tips but it's headed
Full cross stitch over one -- never knew that.

Carol, I'm the same way with computers. I have to have my daughter put in links for me, and put pictures in photobucket and transfer them to here. I should write down the steps and follow them so I know how to do it.
Anyway, I found the tip you were talking about and it still is confusing to me. Since I've only ever stitched on aida, that's what I would stick with. I don't think I could cope with evenweave very well.
The designs you've chosen to pick from are all so beautiful; I'll bet it's going to be difficult to make a decision. Good luck! :)

I got my Wrath as a kit from Colray. They have the option there for using 25ct evenweave or 18ct aida. In evenweave it would be 16" x 24" and in 18ct aida it will be 22.3" x 33.4". have a look at http://www.colray-crafts.com/products.php" target="_blank" and just type in the search any chart you are interested in and it will tell you the size in both aida and evenweave. It's useful even if you don't buy them from there.

HI Vanessa,

 i had just found your thread about colray a few minutes ago as i was looking up the cost of doing a haed, then i checked my posts and here you are telling me about them!!!

I have found the lust kit and it's £67, just need to find the money now  Anyway off to bed now to dream about the day i finally get it 8) Hubby is getting very annoyed that i have been on computer since this afternoon doing research on HAED and he is waiting for his turn

Thanks for all your help you have really helped me navigate my way round all this stuff x

Lust is a beautiful design. I love all the deadly sins and have them all in my stash. Good luck with your savings, I hope you manage to get it. It would be great to watch another HAED!
You will have to hint to your hubby and tell him you wouldn't have so much time to go on the computer if he treated you to it!! @rotfl:

Having used both evenweave and aida, I think that aida would be the best choice for you, because it is much easier to mis-count on evenweave fabric and then make a mistake. Having said that, you could grid your fabric and then it would be easier to count. Have a look online or in your local craft shop at what evenweave fabric looks like and then make your decision :).... I hope I've helped and not confused you :P

I started a HAED almost 9 months ago but I put it aside because I promised to stitch a picture for my friend. I took 18ct Aida and I think this is ok. I don't find evenweave very difficult to stitch on, but I usually take it for projects with much space unstitched, so the texture of the fabric is shown.
P.S. My HAED is 'Eternal Promise (Arwen and Aragorn)' - I have only 1 page and a half stitched so it isn't worth showing yet, I suppose :)
