What exactly is lugana and jazlyn? I know they are evenweave, but what exactly does that mean? I want to start branching out from working on aida only, and from the tips I have been getting, going to evenweave is good to start before jumping to linen. What is the difference between lugana and jazlyn? You stitch over 2 normally, but I found a 20 ct lugana online, so would you stitch over 1 for that cloth? Thanks for all help.

Both are makes of evenweave and are available in various counts.

I use Lugana a lot for my HAEDs - it's a firm, strong fabric with a heavy feel to it. I use 25 count and stitch over 1, which you need to do with HAEDs, but stitching over 2 would be fine (just larger). On 20 count you would need to stitch over 1 or it would be enormous (and probably require 4 strands of thread at least to give decent coverage).

Jazlyn is very similar but is thicker and softer and has a bit of a sheen to it (I've not used this one, but I've read that's how it compares to Lugana).

It does -- I've used both and Jazlyn is Zweigart's fabric that is most like Jobelan, very soft and drapy and with a sheen. I love it but it does fray a bit more.

Zweigart's Lugana in all its counts is a cotton/rayon mix, Jobelan is a cotton/modal mix, which I suppose accounts for its different properties.

Lugana is a good all-round fabric, and stands up to large projects with lots of coverage, which is why it is often used in preference to linen for HAEDs. Jazlyn is lovely, drapes well and would be excellent used for table linen, for example.
