Rach's Tulipa Gesneriana: Finished! 17/01/11

Post by GeekyRach »

Don't ask me how, but no matter how early I start stitching a project that's going to be a gift I always end up in a race against time to get it finished! The latest one that's keeping me awake at night is Tulipa Gesneriana from Scarlet Quince which is (hopefully!) going to be a Christmas present for my mum.

I've been stitching it for almost 5 months now, but it's been pretty slow going. As anyone who's stitched a SQ piece knows, 99% of the colours used are blends and pretty much the whole thing is confetti! It also comes out looking much smaller in pictures, by the time it's done it will be 19 inches tall!

Here's a picture of what it will look like when it's done (with apologies for the quality, all I have is my phone)-

Image

And here's where I'm up to so far-

As you can see, finishing the rest of it in 2 months may be a bit of a tall order! But I think if I neglect a few other things (housework, sleeping, eating) I might just be able to do it!

Housework can be set aside, for sure. How about catnaps and snacks to replace sleeping and eating? Of course, there is also working for a living, but into every life a little rain must fall.

This is a lovely design, only made possible, I guess, by all the blends and confetti. We will cheer you on, and I have just pulled up the magic bench. :tea:

A beautiful design! The detail is amazing and your stitching is beautiful!! :applesauce: :applesauce: :applesauce:

I too will grab a :coffee: and encourage you on!! I have always thought that housework was over-rated, although missing the eating and sleeping bit, might be pushing it!! Alternatively, it would also make a beautiful Easter/Spring gift, just in case!! :D

The Gods have conspired against me! In the very first week of my challenge I've had a ton of essential wedding planning, visiting relatives and a lovely surprise date from my fiance! As much fun as it's been, it's not left much time for stitching! Still, I've managed to do the first row of the page, which was 5 stitches deep, and another row of 10. And I suppose a little progress is better than none at all!

Image

In order to keep on track for my Christmas finish my goal for this week is to get to the top of the completed tulip, which is 3 full rows  . I've got nothing planned this week though, so all my time will be devoted to this project, apart from work, cooking, and maybe the odd hour or two of sleep! :ratherbe:
