Here is a picture of the project I've started for DS's first communion in May. I'm having a hard time getting into it! It has been a travel project that I've been working on at my grandma's, but now that I'm not doing that, I need to start setting time aside while they're at school to work on it. Here's where I am with it right now.

That is a lovely design, and the image is so close to the mental image the verse invokes for me. :D I'm not religious, but I used to be, and that was one of my favourite verses - mind you, I can't help remembering that eagles fly high when hunting...

I am sure your DS will treasure this for all the years to come. It is so lovely and the verse is a very special one.

Very nice start :) ... sorry you're struggling to get involved in it. It'll be treasured, so it will be worth the effort I'm sure.

That's a wonderful design (and thanks for the site, there are some great charts there and very good value too!) and you've made a great start -- it'll be a very special memento for him, both of his special day and of you!

I really like that design; I will have to keep that in mind in a few years for my own DS. (he is only 3 right now...)

Silly question - What is a DS?

I'm sorry you are having a tough time getting into it - I like the colors, the lighter colors almost glow. And your stitching looks really good!

Not a silly question. It's for my (dear/darling) son.

That will look great when it is done, and I'm sure it will be treasured.

I wasn't sure what DS stood for either.

I haven't been working on this project nearly as much as I should since we're a month away from the sacrament. Now I'm debating if it isn't the fabric I'm using that is turning me off. I'm doing 1 over 1 on 22 count. Unfortunately the pattern has quarter stitches which I usually prefer to do on evenweave. :thinks: :thinks: I'm thinking about checking out my stash after I'm done working today to find some 28 count evenweave to start this over on. DH even made the comment that if I did it on a different count (he has only used 14ct) he might be able to help.....I'm not sure how he would do with evenweave though...... I'll keep everyone updated with what I decided to do. I haven't done much more with the eagle but have done some of the tree since the last picture.

I dunno how you could possibly do quarter stitches with 1 over 1! No wonder you don't feel happy with it. A change of fabric will be a big help, I think, and you haven't done so much that you have wasted a lot of thread and time - do start over! I love the design!
Just checked and the original was stitched over 2 on 25 ct.

Yes, I noticed that, too. I was just trying to make it a little smaller so it would fit in a regular sized mat and frame. I guess I don't have to worry about that as much now since my mom and DH bought me a nice mat cutter set for my birthday.

How on earth do you do quarter stitches on 1 over 1  I have enough trouble working them on 14 ct  Hope you manage to get your enthusiasm back for this one as it's a lovely design :applesauce: :applesauce: :applesauce:

I'm not sure. Of course, the stitches are so small they're hard to see.

I found 3 pieces of evenweave yesterday that I could use. DH didn't like either of the blues that I had, so he said that I should do it on the white. I'm going to tape the edges and put it on my frame this morning. I'm hoping that doing it 2 over 2 on a frame so I can stitch 2 handed will make it go quicker. I have to score for 4 hours today, but maybe I can get a decent start on it.
