Advent Calendar/Christmas Countdown (Finished!! Dec 24)

I am making an Advent Calendar / Christmas Countdown for my nephew. I want to make them for my two kids as well, but I am using my nephew as a guinea pig before I make them for my kids. Here is the picture of what cam with the pattern:

I want to do it a little different. I think I want to make it a square wall hanging instead and just put it on some nice Christmas fabric instead of making it into a tree. More similar to something like this:

I wouldn't put anything in the pockets. Maybe I would make a small stuffed animal and attach it via ribbon and then he can move the stuffed animal through the days until he gets to 25.

I'm going to start stitching the dates and I will update with pictures as it comes along. I bought some nice gold-flecked aida so that it is a bit more festive.

Any ideas for finishing it?

Oooo. I'm a little jealous. I'd really love to stitch an advent calendar, too. I'm hoping to do one for next Christmas. I can't wait to see how yours turns out. Will definitely be following this thread! :)

I stitched a fabulous advent calendar for my niece's children. It's in my gallery, and is from New Stitches (of course!). Well worth the time it took to stitch.

I stitched up Dec 1 today. I need to get ahead of the curve because I want to give it to my nephew for Christmas. I am going to try to do a couple extra this weekend so that I have a few days to stitch up the finished piece.

I LOVE the glittery fabric. It is so pretty! It is the first time I have worked with it and now I want to stitch everything on it, lol. :P

That gold aida is great fun to stitch on, isn't it. And it'll give your calendar even more zing than it already has. Wow! :applesauce:

Hiya, this is my first post on the forum, i have been browsing the various topics and this one caught my eye.
It will be nice to see your calender progress.
I would like to share with you the Advent Calender I recently knitted for my little boy who is almost 2 years old. It was fairly simple to make.
My little boy just loves toy cars,so decided that's what I would put into each of the pockets.
I hope you can see the image.(Think I've done it right, lol)

You posted, yeh, nice to see the picture.

Having seen this in the "flesh" as it were,I have to say it is a really beautiful Advent Calender, unusual, you have done a lovely job knitting it up... :applesauce:
I would love to see the bairns face when he gets to open his daily packages.

How about doing one for your old mother for NEXT Christmas, with a crosstitch/needlework item in each pocket....

Here are days 2, 3, 4 and 5.

You can't see the backstitching in the ornaments on day 4 very well, but there are circular designs on the larger ornament and the number 4 is in the smaller ornament. Not sure why the camera didn't pick it up.

These are so quick to stitch, I think I might get this done in time!

Great progress! :applesauce: It's coming along very quickly!

Haha yeh mum I posted! Lol.

Thanks very much, took a wee while to stitch all the seams but not difficult.
Yeah he now know's it's a car before he get's the wrapping off but loves to see which one it is.

Hmmm....making another for you?? I'll have a think about it - wouldn't know what to put in each pocket since you've got sooooooo much stash already! lol.
