Have you tried a magnet?
I ALWAYS stick mine in a pin-cushion whilst getting the next thread ready but I still drop them. I wear a large ring on my right hand and I find the thread catches under that and sends the needle spinning!

I have a pin cushion glued to my chart stand but I still find that I lose them. I also have the magnets for my chart stand and I usually use them when the needles prove elusive.

I now try to always use a pin cushion since the last time I lost one but I do still sometimes just lay it down 'somewhere'

Those needles go to the same place that the one sock you lose in the laundry goes!! That place, where ever it is, is full of stitchin needles and one half of the of the pair of socks you really liked! If anyone knows where that place is we've hit the jackpot!

Everyone loses their needle once in a while... For me, I either stick it straight up in the couch cushion near me and am really careful... or since I'm a very casual person I'll stick it through my jeans!

I do that too!!! stick it in my jeans,It hasn't come a cropper yet though!!

I'm silly really, I put my needle in between my teeth while I sort out more thread. Sometimes though I use a tin I got free from a x stitch magazine that has a magnet inside the lid. I put my scissors in there too, along with a craft knife I use for frogging.

i usually just stick it in my pants or shirt while i'm cross stitching

once though, i lost a needle in the carpet and a few days later i found it when it pierced through the bottom of my foot you would think i would have learned my lesson but no... the pants is still my favorite place to put them hehe

Only once did I find one the hard way (stuck it in the arm of the chair and put my hand on it ). I have magnetws everywhere and three pincushions and I still loose the drn things. I usually see a glint in the carpet and sure enough it is a needle.

That's very weird Dude, I was having a conversation with my mum the other day about the black hole in our laundry or the possibilities of little thievin' elves that steal one our socks!!!

I always drop my needles, especially when I'm unwinding the thread to give a neater look to my stitching. I use either a magnet or a soft spongy thing that was attached to one of the "Cross Stitchers" free floss organisers.

Funny story comes to mind actually. Once I was stitching in the lounge and my needle dropped on the floor. We have floating floorboards in the lounge, but still couldn't find it. My folks come home after a night on the town, and my mum...who is both blind and blind drunk....finds my needle on the floor!!!!

OUCH!!!!

oh, she didn't step on it. While I'm on my hands and knees on the floor trying to find it, she walks in, asks "what's that?" and bends down and picks it up! This is while being drunk and blind!

I've heard horror stories of husbands and kids and others getting needle stuck in them when sitting or walking past were the needle was lost. Some have actually had to go to hospital to have them removed.

I had lost one once in a chair that I stitch in. I had done the whole search with eyes and magnet and come up empty after about 20 minute I gave up and got a new one. Later on I got up and did something?? When I got back and sat down the back of my knee hurt, I couldn't figure out what was causing it and I couldn't see in the right place I had my hubby take a look and stuck in the very back of the knee where it bends was my lost needle. He had to get a pair of tweezers to get it out. It never hurt all that much but it did leave a bruise for a few days.

Okay so when you talk about lost needles you need to talk to a bobbin lacemaker. My house can be littered with stray pins. The worst thing I had happen was one of my cockatiels found a stray and brought it over to me.

I find that a collection of magnets, pin cushions and flashlights can help. For my stitching I keep a magnet that I can just drop the needle on. There is a real neat little group that you can get at Michaels and AC Moores so I'm assuming any common craft place would have them. Also look on ebay. There's a lady that sells cute little buttons that she also makes as magnets. LoRan also makes these strip magnet things that can double as holders for charts. I also find that getting down and shining a flash light horizontally across the floor to find the shiny object....or objects. Or you can just get a cockatiel........

Only problem is that the cockatiel is much cleverer than my very elderly labrador (who isn't good at finding needles, only biscuits), and I know he would be terribly bullied. Our 6 wk old kitten bullied him into submission within no time at all many years ago. He's such a gentleman. But, as I said, no use with needle-hunting.

Well, I've stopped searching for my lost needles. They're coming back some day again. And fotunately, they've never hurt me or anybody else.
Even my nieces aren't searching for them any longer, when I'm stitching at their place. Last time, they just said: They'll come back to Auntie.

Cats are no use at needle-hunting either.
