New birthday stash - need opinions!!!

So, I've gotten two absolutely lovely new charts for my birthday and Christmas this year. The first one,
http://www.123stitch.com/cgi-perl/itemd ... em=06-2515" target="_blank, I already have kitted up and may start tonight.
The second one is what I want YOUR opinion about. I'm wondering what kind of fabric to stitch it up on. It needs to be 32 count linen, but i"m open to color/ hand dyed suggestions. Here's the link - isn't he marvelous?!?

Thanks in advance!

Beautiful charts! As for fabric for the second one, something with a green tone? an emerald shade? Or purple would be the complementary colour to yellow if you can find the right shade.

I agree- an emerald tone would be pretty, but a rich purple would be so pretty! I don't know if I would do a hand dyed because it might be too busy, unless the color marbling isn't too drastic.

Thanks for the ideas!!! I'm wondering if a brilliant purple or an emerald will show through with all the light colors of the dragon (emerald) or overwhelm the blue stitching (purple). Good point about a hand-dyed being too busy. I definitely want my dragon taking center stage. This chart is FULL of awful blends and incessant fractionals, but he was just so cute that I couldn't resist. Keep the ideas coming!

Both dragons are very cute! What about this one from 123 stitch - it's called Violet Mist...

When stitching on a darker fabric than the threads it's best to use 3 strands of thread so the lighter colours still stand out. Although as you're stitching on 32 count 3 strands is probably too much! You'll have to experiment

, sorry I couldn't be more helpful!

Lovely charts! I agree with Dana, I think the violet mist fabric would look gorgeous, and it's a soft enough colour to not make the finished piece look too busy. But whatever fabric you decide on it's going to look stunning!

Yes, a light, solid (or very faintly variegated) colour would work best I think, and that lovely violet would look great without overpowering it!
(By the way, have fallen in love with the midnight hunting dragon, and I'm not really a dragon person normally

)

Below are a few choices that are lightly variegated just to add a little interest . . . and make you smile because you have to look at the fabric the whole time you work on her!
Purple Tone

Green Tone

The draggie is so cute!

I think a light purple would be gorgeous. Dana's suggestion and the purple Whimsy laguna that cinderella posted would be something that would work really well in my opinion. I love both designs and have the first in my horde of stash.

I'm digging the light purple (whimsy) that Cinderella linked to. I've seen that shade before and always liked it. I've never really stitched on anything colored before, so I'm nervous about giving it a try. I just love that little dragon, and I'm afraid of the fabric pulling focus... I think I need to see some pics of other people's work on colored fabrics to help put me at ease... off to go browse the gallery!!!
