Hiya all, I'm a newbie to this forum so 1st of all I would like to say hello all.
I need help, whats the best frames to use to attached your projects too. Ive been looking at the q-snap frames. What does everyone else use?
I currently use these interlocking wooden things that you use drawing pins on. I dont like these but i dont know what elseo use.
Im about to start a project thats 23" x 27" & ive no idea what to buy to fit this large cross stitch project.

Your help on this is very much appreciated.
Love Sarah xx

Sarah - I LOVE my Q-Snaps. I have the 17 x 17 which is about the largest I can handle because I'm still trying to find a floor stand that will hold the Q-Snap that size. I have Flower Power as a WIP and it is humongous. You add the weight of the floss to the weight of the fabric it can really put a strain on the arm muscles. But the Q-Snaps are fantastic.

I have used the stretcher bars as well as scroll frames and the dreaded embroidery hoops in the past but nothing, and I mean nothing beats the Q-Snap for keeping your fabric taut and the best part...no hoop marks.

They come in different sizes and I started with the 11x11 but soon managed to obtain all the sizes. The 8x8 is perfect for ornies and the 11 x 11 is a great size for your normal size projects, but since I like the out-of-this-world huge projects, I bit the bullet and got the largest. I think you can even go larger if you add the extensions to this one and have a 20x20.

I have the R&R universal snap frame, same type of thing as the Q snap and I love it!
I bought mine from a shop but you can get them online easily enough.
I've seen them on ebay as well.
:)

Shop around though, to check you get them at the best price.

Hiya a welcome. I use scroll frames (mostly for my tapestry though), spring hoops for smaller projects and I have a couple of screw hoops that I also love.

Most important thing to remember with anything but a scroll frame is to take your work out of the frame when you aren't working on it to prevent marks.

Welcome! I've never done anything that big, so I've only used hoops and small scroll frames.

I have been using Q-snaps and I love them, but I just got a scroll frame with a floor stand for my larger projects and I like it a lot so far. The Q-snaps are great because you can mix & match the sizes to make whatever size frame you want, and they keep a nice tension on your fabric. They are perfect for small to medium projects. The only problem I had with them is for the larger projects I was either using a smaller size frame and having to deal with a lot of excess fabric on the sides, or using a larger frame which got very heavy to hold. So I got the scroll frame & floor stand for the bigger projects and it works great.

My personal favorites are the Q-snaps. I really like how they hols my fabric on all sides. I can't get on with scrolls at all they just don't feel right to me.

I love my scroll frame. I have used the Qsnaps before as well. For some reason I can't get the great tension from them that everyone else does. Most likely user-error.

Its really a matter of preference, the size of the piece, and the fabric as well. I noticed aida doesn't seem to lay as nice on the Qsnaps, but it works very well in scrolls. With even weave & linen (the whopping 1 piece I did) the scrolls didn't seem to keep the tension as well as they did with the aida, but evenweave lays very nice in the qsnap.

I like a scroll frame best. Makes it so much easier.

Don't like anything that I have to hold as I like to keep my hands free
