Dimensions- Elegant Kimono(Update 07/07/11) DONE!

Well, since I am full of bad ideas lately, I'm going to start my first SAL, Dimensions Gold Collection- Elegant Kimono.

Image

This one might take me a while, with the tendinitis slowing me down. But I have to stitch something occasionally to stay sane, so I'll be sharing my progress with all of you. One up side to the slow stitching is that I get to invent other things to do to amuse myself, so this one is going to be done color by color. This isn't my first time stitching like this so I know I enjoy it. Now I just hope I can remember to take all the pictures I'm supposed to.

Two days of stitching in I have completed the "mint green". I've also attempted some gridding for the first time on a full size project though I've decided I don't really like it so I'm going to remove it. Oh well.

Yes, Dr. Horrible is amazing. I think I might have a thing for mad scientists in general, but he is my favorite.

I'm almost done with the next green! Pics tonight or maybe tomorrow morning. I wish i had sun to get the colors to show more accurately, the flash on my camera washes them out something awful. Unfortunately I live in Washington and if i were to wait for sun, I'd be slowed down VERY badly.

Its a gorgeous design and what an interesting way to stitch, doing it colour by colour. Might try that some time. You are going great with it.

great work! I'm having trouble deciding how to grid as well. I've tried thread and now I finally got a pen. Good luck with it! :applesauce:

I don't always stitch like that but it is fun to do sometimes. I like the way the pattern grows when I work that way.

Here's an album on my photobucket of me stitching a butterfly by colors: http://s791.photobucket.com/albums/yy19 ... 0Progress/" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank

I've got this thing where I lose interest in finished pieces but really enjoy the stitching itself so I make up lots of little games, especially when my wrists are acting up and slowing me down. I think I'd get frustrated otherwise.

Today's progress

You can actually really see the overall shape of the kimono now, even with the limited stitches done. It's making me happy. :)

I don't think I'd dare to grid with a pen. I'd be too worried I'd be able to see the lines forever, even if they were really gone. I used very light fishing line in fluorescent yellow. It came out of the fabric nice and smooth with no hint that it was ever there. I just noticed that I wasn't really using the grid lines anyway, so I took them out.

a beautiful design and a great start! Like you I like to work per colour, but I think you're incredibly brave doing all of the greens when they are a fair bit apart!

Lovely design & you've made a great start, but I'm with Mabel. I think you are very brave (& obviously skilled) to do it colour-by-colour. I just wouldn't trust myself to count properly. I know I couldn't - I was out by 1 stitch on a section of the Gingerbread Cottage having jumped the shortest distance. I was so cross!!

Vanessa, when I sent you the Geisha charts did I include one with several kimonos in a row? If not would you like it if I can find it. I was originally going to stitch it for my daughter who is like you for the Japanese charts but her walls are totally full. Let me know whether you want me to do a search.
