Is there an easy way to do these?

I am currently working on Norwich Cathedral, which is a kit from Heritage Stitchcraft.

There are over 450 of them!!! And I find myself poking about trying to find the centre point where some stitches are across two squares i.e. two half stitches to make a whole one. (Have I explained that ok?)

Should I be doing them as two half stitches with one on the right hand side of the square and the other on the left hand side of the square?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The first cross stitch project I ever did on my own was Teresa Wentzler's The Castle. It was full of half and 3/4 stitches. I did it on Aida not knowing that anything was strange.

Aida cloth is much more difficult to do half stitches on. It does require piercing the fabric in the center of the square. I always choose to do projects with many fractional stitches on evenweave or linen because then I do not need to pierce anything. The half stitches simply go in the middle hole.

Thanks for your comments. I suppose I will just have to live with these, although at times it is a bit difficult. Like this morning when my left eye was seeing everything slightly blurred due to the cataract.

I positive that half stitches were just the first have of a cross stitch? And the only time you pierced the centre of the stitch was with fractionals or 3/4 stitches?

I think these "half stitches" may be what are sometimes called "squashed stitches" -- they are like a full cross stitch, but only occupy half of the square; a vertical squashed stitch occupies the right or left half of the square, a horizontal squashed stitch occupies the top or bottom half of the square.

DOPE! Got my terminology wrong. Pardon! Yes, I am talking about 1/4 and 3/4 stitches. Sigh. I guess that's what I get for staying up until 3 or 4am, doing TW designs and posting on forums. heh.

Oh thank goodness. I was thinking "oh crap! Have I been doing them wrong the whole time?........I don't think so......" lol. Hope you've started a SAL for this project. I want to see it now.
