Crunch time - Magnifier!

Post by Ruthi »

I really need to solve the magnifier problem properly. Currently I have a pair of clip-on lenses like these

Image which I used to love, but with my latest pair of glasses they seem to get in the way when I look up

and a flexi lens like this

Image

which is driving me mad because I seem to be forever adjusting it, or moving it out of the way.

So I am thinking seriously of a headband magnifier like this

Image

which is similar to mageyes, but available in the UK.

Does anyone use these? Or have better suggestions? I normally stitch on the sofa with half an eye on the television, and I wear varifocal glasses.

they have lights on the side haha...
I have a mighty bright magnifying light that is a plug or can run on batteries as well. I love the light not impressed by the strength of the magnifier

LOL! Dorky AND cool! But they won't work with my existing glasses.

I had pretty well discounted the Mighty Bright on the grounds that its just another variation on my flexi lens, which is strong enough, just permanently in my way!

I have a slightly larger flexi lens which I afix to a table when I need it. (Reclaimed from Eldest Son, now that he's -- temporarily, I'm sure -- stopped painting Warhammer figures.) However, for years I used a stand-alone magnifying lens which included a daylight bulb, which was wonderful because the bulb surrounded the lens and there was almost no possibility of a shadow on the fabric. These days, I use the light and lens that is part of my current stand.

OK, I have found some clip on magnifiers on bendy stalks that have built in LEDs., unlike the Vusion which has the LED on a separate stalk Has anyone used these?

There's one by Pureliite with one LED

and Craftlights, the duo

Advice, anyone?

Well I bought the Purelight 3 in 1 and it arrived yesterday.

The clip on is too heavy for my lap frame, but it works well on the floorstand, with an excellent depth of field so the exact position is not critical. I am glad I went for the higher light level, I don't think that the one or two LEDs would have satisfied me.

I think its great, well designed, unobtrusive. I am a bit worried that the lens might be vulnerable if it got knocked over (always a risk with dogs about) so I am making it a little hood for when its resting.
