Well.. going on a road trip and cannot bring any of my current projects with me. So.. I am starting to put together designs for a bookmark.

For the last year or so I have been OBSESSED with the Outlander book series written by Diana Gabaldon.. I think I have read or listened to the audio version of the first book 3 times now. The first book in the series, Outlander, is 20 years old, the 7th came out about a year ago. Giant complex books.. but fantastic escapism. So its time I make a bookmark... which is where I could use your help.

Brief synopsis of the first book.. 1946 Inverness Scotland.. Claire is on an after-war honeymoon with her husband.. out walking around a stone circle collecting plants, she touches one of the stones and is transported back to 1743 Inverness where she meets James Alexander Malcolm Mackenzie Fraser

Je Suis Prest is Jamie's clan motto. His tartan is red/black/white. I have found a font to stitch his motto in a red to black variegated floss, edged with a knot work border. Back it with a red and black plaid. And then make a little dangly.. like the size of a scissor fob, with a thistle on one side, and an interlocking J C on the reverse. I have it all.. except for the thistle.

Does anyone have one? Around the size of 20 stitches square? I haven't done much searching myself.. haven't been to the library yet. Just thought I would ask in the off chance anyone had one at the tips of their fingers.

I found this one

Or why not ask Kell? She might have something similar.

Maybe if you looked at a few designs online, you might be able to design something small yourself. Might be fun trying!

Oh my.. that is FANTASTIC

Really.. not what I was expecting at all.. a bookmark designed just for me?? Seriously.. its great. And I love it that the person that commented on your blog knew exactly who it was for and what it said.

Thank you so much.. wasn't expecting anything like this at all. I'll send you the photo when I am done with it.

Phew! I'm so pleased you like it! :)

Incidentally, you can feel free to change the colours to red and black if you wish - I just left them in purple to match the thistles. ;)

Oh my goodness I am so going to be watching this come together. I LOVE the Diana Gabaldon series. I've only borrowed them from a friend so far and haven't gotten to the point of buying them myself but I definitely will be eventually

Yes, post a pic here too Maggie, also a big fan of that series. I heard Gabaldon thought the series would only be 3 books when she started, then 6, now it will be 9 or more I think! I like the reader they chose for the audio books, she has an excellent style and voice.

Well.. I tried to get started on these this weekend.. I had 8 hours in the car in which I thought I could stitch a bit. That didn't turn out like I had expected. I've stitched in the car before but just could not get into it this trip. Stitching too small maybe? Starting a new pattern vs. working on one already established? Not really sure what the difference was. But really did not get much done.. and what I did I noticed I have to :anotherfrog: due to mis-counting.
I'll post a photo as soon as there is something to post. So far, what I have not :anotherfrog: is just a purple zig zag line. Not exactly a thrilling pic.
