Anyone doing Halloween stitching?

I've been considering doing one. I actually want to do at least a small pattern for each holiday so I can have some sort of decorations in my house... right now Christmas is the only time my decorations change!

I actually just bought an alphabet chart book that has a simple but cute Halloween font in it. I'm thinking of putting my own chart together if I can find some other easy Halloween symbols.

did you have any specific charts in mind?

Hi Lauren,

If you are charting words.... I would love to see the word wicked and spooky!

I do have an older chart but it was a large piece. I would say I am formulating a plan and getting ideas now.

Day of the Dead skeletons could also work. And they have the advantage of looking kinda Glam too. Flowers, hats, could do beads on them.

I like primitives too. I have seen xstitch candy pieces, kind of faux candy. I didnt like them much. Give me candy for real.... Lol.

I also thought mayyybe a colored fabric? Limey green, or light yellow for some?

Example: the word wicked in black on lime green, stands out. Makes me immediately think wicked witch...

Primitive or funky blackwork house, crooked tree...

What are you thinking about?

Kim

I have lime green linen fabric.. left over from The Nest (its in my gallery)
I cannot remember the stitch count (32?).. leftovers are yours if your interested.
Its such a strange color, I know I will never use it again. PM me your address and I will send it on its way.

As for Day of the Dead motifs.. I just saw one, It was a chart book of Ed Hardy designs. Theres got to be one in there. (Now I am thinking it may have been just a book full of his prints.. I'll try and find a link) Also, try a google search for Mexican designers.

DMC makes a white thread that glows in the dark. They also have a florescent yellow and green thread.

Edit: found the Ed Hardy book.. I wasn't completely making it up. Its called Love Kills Slowly. 30 designs, $10 on Amazon.

I hadn't given a whole lot of thought as far as what I would want to stitch. Definitely nothing too creepy as I have young, scaredy cat children

The book I bought has a more cutesy Halloween specific font, but there are also lots of neat gothic looking ones in there that would probably work as well. I love your idea about the different colored fabrics. I was thinking maybe using a black fabric (since I already have some remnants in my stash) and using purple, green, and orange threads. Maybe a traditional ghost or two. I didn't know about the glow in the dark thread but I love that idea too!

Definitely makes me want to start on this type of project.

I love the Cackle pattern!! That's the kind of thing that I was thinking of: Halloween, but not too scary, with a little humor thrown in.

I'll have to look up that magazine. Sounds perfect!

Cackle is great, I love Raise the Roof designs. Hopefully my Sleepy Hollow sampler will be done by Halloween so that will be other. I also plan on stitching a few ornaments, I have loads of charts so the hardest part is deciding which one to do. Might even do one of the bigger Lizzie Kate halloween ones, rules or abc I think

I love Cackle. Somewhere I also have a book with Holiday Alphabets. I am sure there must be one for Halloween. I would be glad to send it also, but I don't want to promise something I can't find. "Googling" always gets me way more things than I want. I have to big file drawers already filled with "to do" patterns, and a new Michaels is opening up just minutes from my house. But they haven't had a lot of good pattern books for a long time so I might be safe.

Can't wait to see what you pick.

and :applesauce: :applesauce: for thinking about Halloween in May. I usually come up with these kinds of great ideas 2 weeks before the holiday.

Carole

I have that I started to stitch but am half way done.... it is a set of bones shaped into a tit tat toe game with little small halloween square chips to put onto the gameboard. The floss is sparkly and glows in the dark. I am hoping to have them done in time for my grandchildren. :D

Hi!

I think about these things early....because I am slow as a mud turtle. We do so manythings that if I am doing handmade.... I gotta start early. I wish I were more free time oriented.

Halloween is a fun holiday. I was one of those kids who walked the whole town gathering a leaf bag full of candy.....most of which I nevet ate. The holiday is different now, but I have fond memories of it.

Apple bobbing, hayrides, haunted houses, candy hoarding! & marshmellows on the fire!

Oh!!! If you are doing bigger pieces, Crypt Club!

I think the Cat O Lantern is cute. Boo to You has some good individual pieces by Prairie Schooler, the Just Nan has several that can be taken and used individually.

I liked one that reminded me of the headstones,in Salem, Mass and other old cemetarys.... Cresent Angels.... Primitive Needle.

Soooooo many nice ones! Hard to decide. I am still looking!!!
