Bagni di Lucca - Pingu's SAL

Post by Pinguxxx »

This is my next project, it's a village in Italy where we stayed a few years back. This will be a gift for the lady who owns the villa.

It will be stitched on 25 count evenweave, 1 over 1. Its 150 x 200 stitches and finished size will be 6"x8". It has 100 colours

By far my biggest challenge yet!

Great project! Can't believe with all those colours that it will only be 6x8 - it is going to have amazing detail, can't wait to follow your progress!

That's a lot of color switches in a small amount of space.. looks like it will be worth it though!

Oh dear, what have I started!?!? Just completed my first block of 10 x 10 stitches and must have picked the worst one (please I beg let it be the worst one) it must have had 20 colour changes, I can't even count them from the chart

Think I'll attempt a 10 x 20 block next. Too dark to take a pic now, they're all dark colours too so will update with pic over next couple of days.

Back to my Folky Victoriana now which has a sensible amount of colours and fabric count!

You'll get there! Like skitzzzz said, just take it one stitch at a time and think of the big picture. Nice that you have another project to go to when your eyes cross though!

Keep going Pingu :applesauce: !

I am also stitching my biggest project to date and had 22 colours in my first 10x10 - I feel your pain. However the effect of all of those different shades is amazing once you see the design coming together, it will be worth all the effort in the end! I just keep saying to myself," one stitch at a time!"

I also have an easier piece on the go at the same time so that if the tiny stitches get to me then I can get a quick stitch fix (comparatively that is!).

Looking forward to the pics

Little by little as they say. You will be thrilled with the end result but getting there is going to be a bit trying with so many colour changes.

Keep up the good work. Maybe set yourself a time limit on this one so that you do not try to do too much in one go and then do some on your other project for a bit of light relief.

"one stitch at a time" will have to be my mantra
I found having one stitch left to do in the middle of all the others really tricky, especially when I'd done one half of the cross, turned over to secure the stitch then couldn't find it when I'd turned back  :?

The back is a right mess too with all the changing, it's like a small padded cushion! Will that effect it when it's framed? Not sure how else to change so many colours and keep it neat :thinks:

Here's a pic of where I'm up to. Haven't stitched much this week with it being school holidays (afternoon naps = late to bed) so only a couple of nights stitching to show but it's a start. Lots of colour changes in these blocks but 2 and 3 slightly easier to as a lot of the threads were in place.
