Just a question, has anyone used both full cross stitches and half/tent stitches in the same project? Was thinking of doing the main pic in full stitche sand the background in half, what do u think? will it be noticable and ruin the overall effect?

I have, and the project was designed for that.
If you go to the first page of my WIP linked in my signature, my Misaki Geisha is done in full crosses and the entire background is half stitches. And the Mediterranean WIP I'm working on is the same thing, has shadowing and background areas in half stitch.

I have had quite a few projects that used both full and half stitches. The wings of the some of the fairies on my afghan are full stitches outside and half stitches inside. Its hard to see because they are single metalic strands. I have also had many projects that had backgrounds in half stitches. I like the effect as it emphasizes the main design.

I've done some with both types of stitches, but I didn't know I was doing tent at the time....

A lot of the dimension kits call for both types of stitches. Are you considering doing it on a HAED? I remember seeing one or two on the HAED board that have done that, and it's turned out just fine.

Thankyou all, thats really helpful. I am doing a HAED and was going to do it all in full stitches but since being on this great site it has made me reconsider. I am definetly doing half stitches for the background
The Misaki Geisha is lovely and i cant tell on the photo theres half stitches.
