Winter Cardinals

I cannot believe that I haven't done a SAL on this yet.
I've been working on this off and on for the better part of a year. The last time I worked on it was before Thanksgiving. After that, I started working on a few projects for my sisters baby (Baby Shoes and The Nest) then I had Dads Lighthouses to stitch. And finally, Cardinal Christmas Ball (not quite sure how that one jumped the line.. must have been calling louder than the others) So now its back to work on these birds. And if you're counting, this would be project #3 this year with a bird theme. Eventually it will go to my parents house. I know all that backstitching will try my patience.. it may even turn into what I work on during UFO week so I actually get it done.

Its a Dimensions kit, on 16 ct light bluey grey aida. And after working 1 over 1 on 25 ct.. stitching with 2 threads on 16 ct takes some getting used to again.

Another of the reasons I put this down is that I noticed a slice in the fabric, top right corner. Its not sliced all the way through.. you can't see anything on the back side of the fabric.. of course. I put in a few stitches around the slice to maybe try and stabilize the fabric a bit until I figured out how to deal with the cut. The ladies at my stitchy store said to try that edge glue. Someone else told me to cut a small bit of fabric and put it on the back, then stitch through both layers. I cannot believe that I have all this work done, then notice that slice!

Here's what it will look like when its all done

Maggie - why did you show that one???? Its gorgeous and love your work and now I want to add it to my stash too - as if there isn't enough there already.

Looking forward to seeing your progress on it.

Oh this is so beautiful. I love cardinals. I used to see them all the time when I lived in TN. But I don't see them nearly as much here in WV. :(

That's so frustrating about the fabric. I haven't had that issue myself, so I'm not sure what to tell you. It is looking fantastic.

wow that's lovely, I love how 3d the needles/leaves? look! Hope you manage to find a solution to the slice in the fabric. I think I would be inclined to try the fabric on the back before anything else... you can always frog and remove it if it doesn't work :thinks:

It looks great and you've done such a lot! As for the slice I've not had this issue myself but I think I remember someone on here quite some time ago have this problem and they used the patch of fabric on the back as it gives something solid to stitch through!

A slice in the fabric! Oh no! Is it in area you'll have to stitch on? I tried looking for it in the pic but I don't see it.. Your cardinals are looking lovely despite panic of the hole
