Framing Work

Can anybody reccommend a good tutorial online for framing work? There seem to be tons out there, but some of them...don't make as much sense as they could.

Additionally, with the mats, could you explain how they work? The pictures are kind of not working on this and I'm a tad confused still about how it all should come together. (And if using a mat, do you cut the foam-core board to the size of the mat opening or frame opening?)

EDIT: More questions. Do you prefer using the acid-free tape, leaving the pins in place, or lacing?

I have been thinking about the same thing after all the hassle I went through hiring someone to frame my work, was an expensive headache.

I have been given a load of cross stitch and embroidery magazines and I am pretty sure in one of them there's a tutorial on how to frame, I will have a flick through and see what they say about lacing and acid free tape etc and get back to you :)
