First big project!

So I am doing my first large project...and it turns out it is larger than I thought it would be! I thought I had 3, 18 count Aida (two for the Cleveland logos and one for my Starry Night w/ Tardis) but it turns out I have one 18 and two 14s.

So now I am doing a logo that is 10" W x 12.86 " H instead of 8 x 10 (and using WAY more thread since I need 3 strands for coverage).

So Panda just gave me a stand and scroll frame (cause she is awesome) but since I started at the top left, so it doesn't reach the top of the frame. Right now, I am just awkwardly trying to hold it and stitch. but it is taking forever!

Any tips on what to do before I can use the frame? It is driving me crazy!

Any other tips on the large projects??

Oh that's really unfortunate. You could try basting some scrap material to the edges of the aida, just enough to make it a bit easier to use in the scroll frame, other than that I am clueless.

Now that I finished gridding (a pain that I am sure will be worth it) I am going back to trying it. I feel like I just have to do it in hand for now, which is so irritating when it is as big as it is.

I think I am only going to do the black with three strands since I have had coverage issues with it and do the rest with two. I just don't want to go through that much thread!

Are you using a hoop until you can get it in the frame? I wasn't exactly sure from your description. I know when I do the afghans there is so much fabric on my lap, but I use a hoop for the part I am working on which does make it more manageable. I can't stitch without a hoop, though I know some do. I can't maintain the tension right.

I can't really use a hoop right now because I am at the very top of the fabric (only 2" above where I am stitching). I tried using a hoop but it is too loose.

I need to get some Q-snaps!

I agree that if you sewed some scrap fabric around the outer edges it will then fit better into a hoop or better yet a qsnap.
