Hello. I'm new here. This is my warm-up to a full-sized Chatelaine design I'm planning to sign up for in January. This is a freebie called Proud Peacock. It's on 14-ct black Aida because I was impatient and it's the only dark I had. The peacock consists of regular DMC and a pink DMC metallic. The border is variegated DMC. I'll adding beads and more metallics for some finishing touches. I messed up a couple of places in the pattern but don't want to bother fixing it as it's not obvious (to me).

Please pay no attention to that other specialty floss; cat hair. 8)

very nicely done. :applesauce: I look forward to your progress updates on your full sized design.

many of us are very aware of the specialty floss. You will see me mention my "assistant" often in my SAL's. She even gets in the photos most of the time.

Beautiful!
Technically, what helps you to work on black? I started a dragon for my daughter a couple of years ago, got to the middle of it and had to abandon - couldn't see enough to stitch on black... At first I could only do it by full daylight, then even that didn't help :(

What I have found helps with working on black or any of the darker fabrics is to place a white towel on your lap. it helps show the holes or if you have a light that you can place on the floor where you stitch you can do that and have it shine on the bottom of your work it helps you see the holes also.

The peacock is lovely!!!!!!! :applesauce:

This is gorgeous! I recently fell head over heels in love with Chatelaine. I'm trying to get up enough courage to try one.

Very pretty! I love Chatelaine's designs. You'll have to post a SAL when you start your full size one so we can all drool over it too. :D

Thank you everyone!

Colibri, I put a white sheet of paper (anything white will do) in my lap. That helps but black or dark colors are hard to deal with no matter what you do. I actually had to buy some close-up glasses yesterday to help and normally I don't use readers!

Midge, you know I can't decide which full-sized Chatelaine I'll be doing! At first I was going to do the Caribbean, but I'm drawn to Baroque Times as well. Whichever I decide on I'll definitely do a thread here in SAL if for no other reason than accountability. :D

I'm definitely signing up to do Deep Blue Sea in January. That pattern will only be revealed to us members so I have no idea what it looks like, but I love the sea and anything to do with it.

Here's a link to a Chatelaine gallery if anyone is interested:

Beautiful peacock!

A small lamp at my feet helps me work with black.

Update with beads added and some back stitching. I've got one more row of x-stitches, a few more beads, and maybe some more back stitching in gold then I'll be finished. I am loving the beads on this!
