help needed for making flowers please

Hi
I posted this on another section but was suggested to repost here, thanks to those who replied earlier.
I've been asked by a friend to make her some artificial flowers, she needs really, really big ones so doesn't think she'll be able to buy them. They are for an outside display.
What wire would you suggest for making the petals of the flowers for stretching the fabric over?
I have never made anything like this so totally open to ideas and also I have a year to make them ( will be needed with all my other projects on the go )
