Hi there. I'm relatively new to all this, but I'm doing a beautiful project at the moment. It's called Eastern Promise from Joan Elliott's Cross Stitch Wit and Wisdom book. It's for an Indian friend of mine who's getting married on October 1st, so no pressure there! I thought I may adapt the text to try and get the bride and groom names and date at the bottom (if I have time). There's loads of metallics and a fair few beads (which I haven't used before, but I'm up for a challenge!)
Wish me luck. We're off for a few days in the caravan after a few manic weeks at work, so hopefully I'll be able to knuckle down and get some serious stitching done, especially if it keeps raining (children permitting)!!
Here's what it is supposed to look like

Here's how far I've got

That it a stunning design, I love the peacock and you've got a fair bit done already
How are you finding the metallics? I finished a UFO recently that I'd put away out of a blind fear of metallic thread, over 15 years later I finally felt up to the challenge!! It turned out ok, but I didn't enjoy the process. Wish I'd heard of thread heaven before I finished it. Now I'm doing the UFO that I put away for fear of beads. You're clearly far braver than I
I'm off camping tomorrow, but I don't think I'll get much stitching done in a 2 man tent

Lets hope you have better luck

Hi there
I wouldn't be without Thread Heaven. Whoever invented that should have a medal!! I'm also using Kreinik #4 very fine braid which is really easy to use once you've got it lubed up! Far better than DMC light effects which are a complete nightmare. I found a conversion for DMC to kreinik
http://www.kreinik.com/articles/news.php?newsid=49" target="_blank" target="_blank
and am going to use the kreinik instead of DMC every time from now on. I did my daughter a little bookmark using the DMC and nearly threw it out of the window out of frustration! There's loads of metallics in this Eastern Promise (all the grid lines and some stitching) and I'm not fazed at all. Just don't cut your lengths too long and keep untwisting it.
Good luck with the camping. We went camping with our 2 children (then aged 1 and a half and nearly 4) a couple of years ago and got so wet we couldn't get dry, so came home early and ended up buying a caravan!!

Beautiful work!
I have GOT to find my thread heaven. I'm tempted to buy another one, but I know as soon as I do, I'd find it.
