hi,

how do i interpret a pattern that shows two different colours inside one square on the chart? in the pattern i'm following, some of the squares are shaded in one colour in one half and another colour in the other half (split across the diagonal). i'm not really sure what i'm supposed to do here!

any advice appreciated :)

I would double check your chart to make sure that there are no instructions that indicate what it means - as it can mean different things on different charts! I would interpret it to mean a quarter stitch (or three quarter stitch of the dominant colour) of each of the colours that meets in the middle. Do you have a picture of the completed design to refer to? If so see if you can make it out from that if what I've said is right? What is the chart/designer that you are stitching, that may give us a clue to help as well.

I agree with Mrs MBK. I have done a lot of charts that use 1/4 stitches and that is usually how they appear in the chart, but a chart usually has a page with instructions as to what it means so I would double check there. It will also help if you tell us the designer. Some of us may have done several of his/her charts.

hi :) thanks for the advice (i'm a beginner!).

the pattern is from the September issue of CrossStitcher Magazine, and it's by Julia Rigby. It's the pattern for the free little kit that comes with the magazine (for aperture cards - a flower pattern and an owl).

i will try to scan it in :)
