Disney/Looney Toons Afghan

This is my first "build-a-project". I had a Disney stitch book that had some Christmas images in a nice checkered border that I thought would look nice in a paneled afghan. Problem was there weren't enough images to fill up the available panels. Go big or go home, right?

Out comes the Disney Winnie the Poo Christmas Book. There were some similar images with a checkered border but a different colour palette. Easy enough to swap that out! Still not enough cartoon characters!

Book three was a Looney Tunes collection but nary a Chrstmas image betwixt the covers. No problem! I can stitch a border but a border does not a Christmas panel make.

That brings us to the Mammoth Book of Cross Stitch. I found some Christmas elements and assigned one to each image that needed a little holiday cheer. Then I had to map out the panels so, horror of horrors, no like characters should be in too close of proximity.

Yeah, I'm a huge geek.

When I put this project in the "Later" box in 2006, the top 8 panels were done. I've been whittling away at it in the past two months and added a bit more. I'm going to rework Tweety. Looks like he suffered some severe head trauma.

:applesauce: I love it. I love afghans for cross stitch. Which afghan fabric did you use? Afghans are all I did for years and years (until this year of course, when I have branced out a little bit) but still find a way to put almost anything on an afghan. and it becomes such a warm, cozy, cuddly thing to have with your stitching on it. Yours looks like it is fun to do. And you have done a great job. The hardest part is placing them in what feels like the right spots and you have done a really good job.
Just saw Pluto while I was posting this. Great stitching. :applesauce:

The Poo images were bordered in soft blue/purple so I swapped 'em with the traditional red/green.

very clever. With the right border you can make any of these characters "Christmasy". Throw in a snowflake (did you add that or was it in the pattern?) or a candy cane and it works wonders. :applesauce:

Looney Tunes needed more help. Put in the border and replaced Tweety with a Christmas angel!

I'm afraid I don!'t recall the afghan make ... Got it so long ago.

The snow flake was in the Poo pattern book, I just migrated it to Eyore's nose!

If anyone wants to see a close up of any panel, please let me know. I didn't want to saturate the board with photos.

Great idea for an afghan--I have one that is very similar to that which I've had sitting waiting to start on for a couple of years. I know I have several disney booklets and never even thought to do them on this! Great stitching!!!

What a great idea and your panels are great and I love the way you have given them a Christmas theme.

Well done.

It all looks great. The changes you have made look very natural as though they were designed that way. Well Done! :applesauce: :applesauce:
