Hole in fabric!!!

Disaster! I was pushing the needle through on the back to fasten a thread after frogging a bit and pushed to hard or something because I made a hole in the fabric! SOme threads of the fabric broke as well so not only distortion of the fabric!
I am stitching a Fain piece, fairy sisters, and where the hole is is just on the silouette of the head of one of the fairies!
Any advice on what to do to patch it up and make it look good?
I want to cry because I will probably always se the damaged spot and hate the piece for it. DAMN

On closer inspection it is two fabric threads that are torn.

Can you not weave some threads in to fill the gap then stitch over or is it to big a hole

OH NO!

And on a HAED too....hope you haven't stitched too much of this. I can't offer any advice on how to fix it but I'm sure there are some more experienced stitchers out there who will be able to help

Oh, I hate disasters. I have been trying to think about if this has happened to me among the various problems I have run into over the years and think I have missed this one somehow. I think doing some kind of weave on the stitches on the back side to secure the fabric and then
doing your stitches on the front, similar to what Reta suggested might work, since you said it is two fabric threads which got torn. Once you stitch over it, I think the only one who will notice it at all will be you, because we all seem to notice our own imperfections. In the total scheme of an HAED I think you should end up okay. Let us know.

I have read on this forum of putting another piece of fabric behind the hole, stitching all around the edges as usual and into the damaged part and not being able to see the difference. I'm sure someone will be along to explain it better that I just did, but I do know that others have successfully done it. A true "patch"!
I wonder if doing something like that will work in your case.

Marniecat is right but I can not find the thread. Someone cut a piece of the same type of material and put it on the back side of the project and then just stitched through both pieces to finish the picture.

I posted a how to fix this but am away from home with no pc until tomorrow night or Tuesday. I'll repost then if you can wait. The patch won't show at all.

Hi. I did a search on "fabric patch" and found freelady's post (I think this is the one you were talking about. I hope you don't mind that I found it for SunshineGirl. If this isn't the one then you can repost it when you get to your pc when you get home). It is on page 3 of
this thread. Scroll down until you see freelady's post. I was curious how you would do it, and this would be a good solution. I can see where frogging, especially in some of the higher count fabrics could cause this to happen. I've gotten concerned a few times in my LOTR piece because the stitches are so tight and frogging is so hard.

Instead of a patch, you could also try the following, which depends a little on whether there is any stitching over the broken thread already:
very carefully pull out all of the broken thread, so that there is a long "gap" in the fabric. Remove a fabric thread from the edge of the fabric. Carefully weave it into the gap to take the place of the broken thread. This restores the fabric practically to new, it's invisible, but as I said does depend on the broken thread being "free" from stitching.

I have the same problem on my winter cardinal kit. Its on aida, I think the slice is 2 maybe 3 blocks long. It will be over an area that will be stitched. I haven't done anything with it- other than cover the area with fray stop- and put it at the bottom of my stitch pile.

I'm really glad that rcperryls was able to find the post for you. I have just looked at the piece I patched and can't see where it was. Good luck with the repair, it was worth the effort it took for me to do it.
